About the Forum

Acoustic Soundboard is a free, independent forum / messageboard for the discussion of acoustic guitars, other acoustic instruments, associated equipment, playing music, listening to music and a whole lot more!

The community has been in existence since 2007, and the forum was previously hosted by ACOUSTIC magazine, under the name Acousticlife.

This forum was set-up at the beginning of October 2010 when we were having lots of access problems at Acousticlife.
The forum software there was very buggy, people struggled to register and access the forum and we were afraid that we would all lose touch with each other if it disappeared. This then became the back-up, so that in times where we couldn't access the main forum, we could still remain in touch with each other and post.

It became useful when Acousticlife changed software and a lot of posts, uploads and information was lost.
Following the problems caused by ACOUSTIC changing publisher from OysterHouse to Blaze (access/bookmark/login issues) this forum received lots more use.

In November 2012 as we were getting more serious about using this forum, we held a mini competition to rename it from Acousticlife Backup to something of our own identity.
Forum member andrewjw came up with the most popular suggestion, and so Acoustic Soundboard was born.

In February 2013, Acousticlife suddenly stopped working altogether and after several attempts at contacting ACOUSTIC staff, including the then editor Guy Little, we received a short note and later a letter from Guy in which he explained that they had a brand new enhanced website not tied to the previous server which hosted the forum.
He says that a decision was made not to continue with the Forum, which had been been closed without any notice to any members.

As such we had no opportunity to warn anyone, to transfer data/content we had built up, or to obtain further contact details for fellow members, and as a result many members were lost or took a long time finding their way to the new forum.

Acoustic Soundboard has slowly but steadily built up an excellent member base, and is now striving to include interesting content, stimulating discussion and most importantly, provide a fun place for like-minded people to visit, interact, learn and be entertained.

Martin: Did they still have your old guitar? :sherlock: May 30, 2017 8:47:35 GMT
ocarolan: Sadly, Robin sold "my" Oberon after using for some time at home and to use for writing etc. When Fleet Foxes went out of sight he went back to Uni for a while - sold off a lot of gear via a Seattle music shop - I spotted an ad they had for the guitar - May 30, 2017 17:45:41 GMT
ocarolan: -and let them know more about it, for which they were thankful. No idea where it is now! May 30, 2017 17:46:11 GMT
Martin: It would be cool to be able to trace it - I wonder if it's ended up somewhere else famous.... :-/ Jun 1, 2017 8:24:27 GMT

ocarolan: Am I going to be able to watch the QT special tonight with Jezza and Tezza without bursting a blood vessel? Perhaps I should do some guitar noodling whilst it's on to keep me calm(er)..... Jun 2, 2017 19:25:55 GMT
Akquarius: RIP Heiner Dreizehnter. only 57 years old. I guess I'll play my Akquarius a lot this weekend Jun 3, 2017 16:34:07 GMT

walkingdecay: I did my last gig last Friday. Got sick of being booked to play keyboards only. Jun 6, 2017 13:51:53 GMT *
ocarolan: ...at least you did get booked though, Pete! ;) Jun 6, 2017 21:49:22 GMT
walkingdecay: True, but on some gigs I felt as much programmer as musician, and wishing physical harm would befall the guitarist so I could take over was probably not a healthy state of mind. (I didn't really. Well, not entirely seriously.) Jun 7, 2017 9:31:48 GMT *
ocarolan: Hm, yes. Understand! Just think of the free evenings you'll have! :) Jun 7, 2017 11:52:58 GMT
walkingdecay: The Arena:American Epic series is worth catching on iPlayer at the moment. Nice mini-portraits of the likes of The Carter Family and Mississippi John Hurt, though the "origins of steel guitar" story should be taken with a pinch of salt the size of Hawaii. Jun 7, 2017 14:19:41 GMT
