Listening to the track on the opening post here; acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/1768/alexi-murdoch.....I'm unsure about what additional instruments have been used but I think that there's a keyboard synth in there. This leads me ask if anybody here uses effects of any kind in their ' acoustic ' performances ? Many ' acoustic ' guitars have onboard amplification of one kind or another. My live performance guitar has a Schatten HFN under-bridge pickup and I have a neat little Kustom acoustic guitar amp to go with it. I do use it now and again but purist folkies aren't exactly keen on instrument amplification although they'll quite happily listen to vocals through a PA. I would really like to utilise a range of effects with my guitar- sort of John Martyn style- and I'm actually thinking about using my laptop and Guitar Rig software for performances. Does anybody here already do this ?

No effects for me colan. Did try a Zoom multi-effects pedal once, but didn't really care for it - too many decisions to make, something else to go wrong (I like to keep live gear as simple possible!), and I prefered the sound without effects anyway. I do have a chorus pedal still, but can't remember when I last used it. Not sure who might have some experience actually, but hope they might chip in soon! How have your experiments been going so far? Should be a huge number of creative possibilities. Keith

I did try a little digital reverb behind a female vocalist once and that went well. That was in my own local folk club though. I'd never turn up at any other folk gig with even a small amp., let alone a laptop Concerts would be a different story. You've got time to set up, test, and the bums on seats are already primed to know what to expect. As a seasoned bum myself I welcome experimentation in folk clubs, but I haven't seen much worth a mention. Perhaps it's best not to disturb the traditional club environment too much and to encourage the unusual at clubs more suited to it. That's my current direction but I was wondering if anybody else was already up and running in that area.

Keith I've had two of those multi effects Zoom pedals Keith and I'm with you just too many choices and a lot of the sounds are too way out there . I like some chorus but the 12 string gives that naturally and sometimes a bit of reverb sounds lovely as long as its not overdone . For electric offerings you can't beat a bit of overdrive and the odd bit wah .

Well, I tried a looper but just haven't given it the amount of time to justify keeping it, but….I am gas'ing for one of these: www.strymon.net/bigsky/I can think of uses for at least 4 or 5 of those reverbs, especially the choir ones, and the shimmer Robbie
