A nice set of songs - something different to like in each one. I liked the crows as well.

Thanks both! clydeslide No West Coast gigs in the pipeline at the moment. We don't do a helluva lot of gigs to be honest and those we do have been local so far. leoroberts We're aiming to record 12 songs and release an album. Slow going tho! Take Me Back.. is apparently based on some Scouse guy my pal used to know.

That's a shame, late night Edinburgh is a bit difficult for me. I will try though.

The band I'm in recorded some songs in a proper studio a few months back. We only had a day and tried to do 4 songs, which was probably overstretching ourselves a bit. We got a mixed bag of results. You can hear the songs here: www.reverbnation.com/galluscrowsThe first 4 listed are the new ones. Be interested to hear what you think of the songs and if you think the quality of the studio recorded ones is much better than the others, which were home recorded.

Love the new songs Stringy! A superb collection altogether now, as I really enjoyed the older ones when you first aired them. I could listen to this sort of stuff all night - well written, well played and sung and well mixed. Some nice light and shade in the arrangements and great vocal harmonies. The new recordings are considerably louder than the older ones, which makes comparisons difficult, but with a bit of volume twiddling to mitigate the difference I get the feeling that the new recordings have a fuller, warmer sound, greater "presence" and clarity, and have a more detailed presentation of the subtleties of the mixes, with different instruments being more readily followable. There does seem to be some unremoved background hiss in places on the new ones - most noticeable at the start of Everyone but me and at the end where the audible hiss stops abruptly. Otherwise it rarely intrudes, and should be easily fixable anyway. I suppose a Somerset gig would be too far for the Crows to fly.....? Keith

I only got to listen to 'Journey Never Shared' before work, but I thought it was excellent. Really professional sounding, with great playing and nice instrumentation, especially the mandolin work

@martin and ocarolan - thanks so much for listening and for the feedback on the songs. It's great to hear we're doing something right The background to the recording session was that it was a Groupon deal. We got half a days recording and half a days mixing and mastering for fifty or sixty quid. It was all a bit rushed really. We had to record the songs live as instrumentals and as a result we played some too fast or too low. The vocals and lead stuff was overdubbed. I'm only really happy with "New Caledonia", the other three I think we'll have to do again. And you're right Keith, there's a lot of hiss and some weird bumps on there. The loudness is down to the mastering and we could pay to get our home recordings professionally mixed and mastered, which would improve the levels. It was a good experience, and I'd recommend it just for that. it was pretty cool feeling like a real band in a studio, but I'm now leaning towards recording our stuff at home. We have access to good gear and crucially we have time to spend on getting things right. Somerset gigs Keith? Well you never know! Playing at the Langdale Festival in the Lake District in May was a big adventure for us, so we may try playing further afield again if the opportunities arise. The plan at the moment is to get the cd finished and try to get some folk club gigs. It's a hobby band really and we all work and have limited time to spend on it. But we all enjoy it, which is the main thing :-)

Sorry for plugging the band yet again , but wondering if any of you can help with this. We have a song called "Take Me Back To Liverpool", inspired by a Scouse guy my mate used to know when he was living in Germany in the 80s. We've had this song mixed by the bloke who's going to do our album and my pal has knocked together a wee video for it using old photos of Liverpool - see below. Anyway, there's a fella comes to our gigs who really likes the song (as in he knows all the words) and he mentioned on Saturday that we should try promoting it in Liverpool. I've FB messaged a few Liverpool radio stations, but I was wondering if there's anywhere else I could try (local folk clubs, etc). Any suggestions gratefully received.

Apologies for plugging my band on here yet again... but... we now have an online shop on our website where you can purchase CDs: our debut EP, my daughter's EP and a couple of compilations that we have a track on. Quite excited about finally getting this set up. galluscrows.weebly.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
