My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

Aha! It worked - just realised there's an "attachment" button in the compose post screen - it means it's possible to upload a photo straight from PC rahther than having to go via an intermediate hosting site, unlike on the previous forum. Excellent! How weird... The iOS app lets me see photos whereas those linked with don't...

Great stuff.... The wait begins

The waiting has been going on since October!
One thing to be said for waiting for a custom is that it does help contain G.A.S. - I've found that, apart from looking at pictures of other fyldes online, I haven't been tempted by a guitar at all ( and, for reasons I'm slightly reluctant to reveal, I'm surrounded by temptation a lot!)

How long did Roger estimate until completion when you commissioned the guitar? Luthier time doesn't always seem to match the rest of the world! Neither does waiting time - but if the waiting/anticipating has stopped you lusting too badly after other guitars then maybe the sensible thing to do would be to ask Roger to keep delaying your build...?! "Surrounded by temptation.." .... you work in a guitar shop...?? Keith

Keith My lips are sealed! roger said 6-8 months in October - due to him having developed an allergy to rosewood he said its beneficial to him to work with mahogany when he can, plus the only thing that's custom about my guitar is the back and sides and the nut width, everything else I standard which cuts down on the building time... i am preparing myself for him to say it might be delayed though-luthier time does seem to run differently!

The rosewood allergy thing can be quite serious. He first developed it quite a while ago; but right after I'd commissioned my guitar he was badly affected by it for several months and was proper poorly. Put back my build for several months. But still worth the wait! Keith

Well I heard from Roger today that the body for my Alex is done, and the neck is 'half done'!
He's off on holiday next week, but afterwards he says they'll finish the guitar up and I should have it mid-june, so only really 5/6 weeks now to wait.
I've asked for a couple of photographs of where it's at right now if he gets a chance so, fingers crossed, I'll have something to show everyone in a few days...

Well the photos never arrived but I'm not that bothered - I'd rather my guitar was being built then photographed!
Roger ha told me the guitr is being assembled this week! I don't know whether they leave them for a few days to settle, but, depending on when its finished I might have the guitar by my weekend trip to Keith's to pick up the road trip mandolin...
Currently checking my emails every three minutes...
Very exciting!,
