This video is actually very good, and not the PRS ad I thought it would turn out to be. Some great chat and insights into finding one's own playing "voice" and how music can affect us.

Well worth watching. Slightly wobbly camera work, with erratic excursions into monochrome, more than compensated for by what is said.

Great vid but one thing comes to mind...
I don't see many people mention PRS acoustics on the forums. There's lots of talk about similar priced custom builds and brand name guitars, but hardly anything about PRS yet these four amazing players (Simpson being one of my absolute faves at the moment) all use, and actively endorse, their instruments.
I've only ever played one PRS acoustic. It was five grand, made of coco bolo and it was dead as a door nail. Literally it had nothing going for it. It was heavy, dull, lifeless. Granted it was loud, but that was it. I was massively disappointed.
I wonder if the 'artist' models are that much better. I refuse to believe that guys of this caliber are only playing these guitars for the money and publicity...
I've watched a few videos about PRS acoustics online, and I kinda like the thought process behind them, but I have to say Paul reed smith himself is the worst advert for those guitars - all he talks about is volume, and how loud the guitars are compared to everyone else's, and he seems to know little to nothing about any of the artists who use his instruments...
I find it all very strange...

That's an interesting post.. I've only tried one PRS acoustic which Mansons in Exeter had in stock some time ago...my impression was very similar to yours. Probably the person on here who has had the most experience of PRS's is Ian[LP59] who is friendly with Martin Simpson and has played at least one of his PRS's if my memory serves me right...hopefully he'll chip in if he sees this thread.

Yes that was the one I tried also... I believe Mansons eventually sent it back to PRS... I'm not one to judge a whole brand by one instrument, but that guitar was so bad that it really astounded me...

Martin is a good friend of mine, so I've got to play a few PRS acoustics. Naturally, Martin gets the "good" ones picked out by Mr Smith himself, so I've always been quite impressed by their quality and especially their playability. The Signature models are essentially Private Stock acoustics, for which superior materials are used. Although an endorser, Martin would not use an instrument that was not up to it. Personally, I've not been tempted by PRS as ultimately they are factory built instruments, albeit very well built and consistent. Interestingly, I commissioned a guitar from Steve Fischer in August last year, which arrived here just before Christmas. There was a build thread on the now defunct Acoustic Life Forum as well as on the AGF here. Steve Fischer was the man responsible for the design of the PRS acoustic line and personally hand built the original prototypes and is a great builder. My latest guitar is very good indeed, the build quality, fit and finish are totally flawless. And it sounds great too. I took it over to Trevor at TAMCO in January and he ordered up a guitar from Steve that very afternoon. It's expected to arrive in May sometime. Cheers, Ian

Good to see you here Ian - welcome! Keith Thanks Keith. I managed to find my way here a while ago, largely through serendipity... I took the Fischer over to steveh's place recently and he gave it the thumbs up, big time. Cheers, Ian

Hi Ian. I noticed that Trevor had mentioned he would be getting a Fischer sent over, and it's good that it's a result of seeing your guitar!

I've never played a PRS, but I have had a go on Ian's Fischer as well as being privileged to hear Ian play it in his excellent manner (and also in his excellent manor as it happens). I absolutely promise you there is no hint of "dead as a doornail" in it.
It does worry me, though, that PRS would allow a guitar with these undesirable characteristics to leave the workshop. But it also worries me that Mansons in Exeter would have accepted such an instrument and allowed it to be available for sale. Is it not reasonable to expect both organisations to have fantastic quality control?
