There's some top quality material available on archive.org, and it's worth browsing there whatever your interests. One of the gems is this downloadable .pdf book by one of the great scholars of roots music, Tony Russell: Legends Of The LostIt offers portraits of the artists who created country music, both well- and lesser-known, and is very readable. Well worth a look if you have any interest in old timey music. I'll add that Patrick Costello's banjo teaching materials are also available in .pdf in the archive. Because he doesn't toe the party line on technique he's much maligned by a snobbish element on a certain website, but he has started many people on their way to playing the banjo.

Thanks, Pete.
Just downloading it now.
Will definitely add to my knowledge, as I'm woefully ignorant of 'my' music's forefathers.
