Don't know if I've posted this before but it's the first of two lessons with Johnny Dickinson, my favourite slide player. Johnny is all about feel, and if you watch the video's a few times, you'll get it. Hard to describe, easier to have a go if you know what I mean...

Been a big fan of Johny Dickinson for a long time. A great live performer and I love his reworking of this KC Douglas classic:
Do you know how he is now?

I was told you can't do slide on a classical. Anyone?

Hi,
Yes you can slide on nylon strings although it will (obviously) sound different. There are various examples on You Tube and the usual places. Will try to dig out a couple when I have a bit more time.
So the story goes, slide playing was started well before the guitar was invented, in Northern India. Far more likely that they were using gut strings than anything else, with a polished stone or bone as a slide.
There aren't any rules so just try it.

Enjoyed this, they play live around Brixham. I first saw Stuart probably 20 years ago. He was playing with a band called the Kennet Sheiks. I didn't play slide at the time but won a brass one in a raffle. Took it home, tried it out on my wife's beaten-up old acoustic with a neck shaped like a banana and that was me hooked. Thanks for posting! M.
