Ah Rainer - another one who went far, far too soon. Brain tumor I think it was? Lovely player.

Haven`t a clue who this is but what a great version. Thanks for posting this - love it - such a sincere interpretation. All that old gospel blues is probably my favourite.

Probably about time I stuck one of my own up here. My version of Little Martha - somewhere between the Allmans and Gerry Douglas

I have no trouble when I play fingerstyle, but when playing slide, I have to stop myself speeding when I use vibrato!! Something I am really working on to control, the good news, it`s coming together. Thanks for posting. Steve.

Tricky one that, getting the vibrato going at a different pace to the beat. When I started I was told not to bother with the vibrato too much, that comes with time almost automatically. Just concentrate on the accuracy of the note. But sounds like you have got beyond that. A good exercise is to keep the alt bass going and try the vibrato at different speeds. Try long & short slides into the note and then switch on the vibrato. It's all just patting your head and rubbing your tummy really.

Great version! I love that tune but that's the first time I've heard it slid. Beautiful and impressive!

I have started to just practice this in isolation to anything else. I have spent a long time on just the vibrato, so I will just have to take a step back, to go forward. Cheers, Steve.

I must have missed this thread until today - lots of catching up to do on the videos. Glad to see a Harry Manx and some Kelly Joe Phelps tucked away amongst the pages. And a mention of Jerry Douglas, too. Jerry is one of my favourite musicians - he just makes that dobro sing.
We've just started doing No Expectations in one of my ensembles which gives me an excuse to play a bit of slide, and whilst I've got the guitar tuned to E I get to do my own "I Don't Believe In Lies" previously posted here. Always enjoy giving the slide an airing.
Need some Lowell George though, even though he's not acoustic. Can't have a slide thread without Lowell.

Ah but if we're going electric then you must have brother Duane as well as Lowell and, of course, Derek Trucks. And I can't think why I haven't included this guy before now. Should be ashamed of myself.

Yep, Derek Trucks (and Mr Winter - who was a seminal influence) were mentioned earlier in the thread which was why I felt I had permission to mention Lowell. Must admit I'm quite tempted by one of Mr Messer's reso guitars. EDIT: Have to say I love Susan Tedeschi's version of John Prines's Angel From Montgomery

EDIT: Have to say I love Susan Tedeschi's version of John Prines's Angel From Montgomery Saw Susan T at the Bishopstock Blues festival in the early 2000's, early on in her career. Ripped the place up, even then. We were camped out next to the late great Humphry Littleton. He was boogie-ing on down like a teenager all through her set. And yes her version of Angel from Montgomery is stunning. Ranks up there with Bonnie Raitt's version - no mean slider herself, seen here giving an old Elmore clssic a good work out: Hmmmm - can't get that clip to load. So let's have some of the man himself. As Paul Jones says "HE only had one riff, but by God it was the right one."

And here's Louisiana Red. If the poor man hadn't suffered enough in his early life, he had to try to teach the likes of me to play slide guitar well into his seventies:
