Hi there folks, A little background- I am 35, a tutor and player for a living, I teach in schools, play in a couple of bands and have a private practice (www.exeterguitarschool.co.uk). Just after I left uni in 2003 I got really into Kelly Joe Phelps, and did my best to learn his style and approach, both as a straight picker and a lap style slide master. If anyone is interested in the lap style, I have made a couple of youtube videos that might help you out, in all honesty my online thing has taken a backseat to the needs of the day to day (I have over 70 face to face students a week now), but the limited number of videos are there, and I spent a long time getting to grips with the style, so I might as well share what I found out, and find out if anyone would like anymore! Whilst I am very grateful to be able to teach music and guitar on a daily basis I do also want to help spread the word about the styles I most enjoy, so do check out the vids and let me know any thoughts. I have a handful of Skype students for lap slide- so if anyone is interested in that let me know, I would love to hear what others in the UK are doing with this style too. Warmest regards Rupe

Thanks. Kelly Joe Phelps is the reason I also got into lap slide. I remember watching his performance on Jools Holland many years ago. I have all his albums and have seen him many times live. I regularly listen to Lead Me On, Roll Away the Stone and Shine Eyed Mr Zen. I starred with a regular acoustic and a nut riser but got a weissenborn when I moved down under.
