I've just had to switch to using a mouse left handed. Mouse clickers wrist on my right hand to add to my arthritic joints issue. A vertical mouse will be tried as my attempts at left handed mousery are pathetic. So I'm needing to be careful not to overdo anything that might strain things ..... guitar included ..... though I don't get the numbness / tingling when playing guitar, just when I'm mousing. Potentially Carpel Tunnel stuff from what I've read. Mark

...thoroughly recommend a vertical mouse, Mark. I used to get frequent wrist pain using normal ones. Since beginning to use a vertical one some years ago all has been well. Good luck.

It's bloody horrible getting older. Nothing works the way it did. Hands hurts all the time. Chart "music" doesn't sound like music. To record anything involves a lot more than pushing 2 buttons on the cassette recorder. Cars are ridiculous things governed by computers. Millions of channels on my telly and still nothing to watch . . . Not a contribution just a moan.

I didn't know vertical mice existed. Do they make vertical guitars? I've got a sore thumb - yet another guitar injury.

Howevah, when you get a little bit older you can go out in your slippers wearing food-stained clothes. You can shout at the traffic and take the mickey out of telephone cold callers. "Have you been involved in an accident recently?" "You'll have to speak up son! I'm a bit deaf because I was in an accident recently." I would add 'never be far from a toilet' to your list. I'm allowed to say things like that because I'm old.

The older you get, the more of you there is, and less of it works properly.
You also appreciate the wisdom of, I think, one of the Kings George when he said: "go when you can, not when you have to". Though as you get older, the latter events vastly outnumber the former.

From the film "The Bucket List" (and I think I heard something similar from Billy Connolly):
Three things to remember when you get older: never pass up a bathroom, never waste an erection, and never trust a fart

Do I know him ?

Thanks for that link Iain. I'll bear it in mind if the vertical mouse doesn't "take". The vertical mouse arrived yesterday. I seem to be OK on getting it to point to the right places, but it'll need some longer term use to see if it solves the problems. I'm not 100% convinced that clicking with a more curved finger is a plus for my finger joints, and I am finding a tendency to clatter the top of the mouse with the backs of my fingers when I move my hand back to it from the keyboard. We shall see. ......................................... At least it was simple to set up - I have that getting older problem of not coping well with new technology! It seems from the posts on this thread that I'm not alone in finding getting older less than fun! It sort of helps a bit when you find you're not alone with a problem, though I must admit I've never found the idiom 'A problem shared is a problem halved' to be less than convincing ... it just means the aggravation gets spread to annoy more people. I had been doing some hand / wrist exercises to try to loosen things up but it seems to be aggravating my arthritic joints as much as it's helping the RSI. Bugger! Mark

I had a similar problem some years ago. I spent ages thinking about guitar technique. The answer seemed to come hone I abandoned a mouse and began to use a trackpad!

I agree with Andy. Even before I got old (!) I managed to do in both wrists with a computer mouse. Why both? Because I switched hands when the first one got carpal tunnel and then got it in the other one ;( For the last 15 years or so I've used the trackpad (or before I had a laptop I had a plug-in trackpad), It's always set to tap not click so no pressure is required, and I've not had a problem since. I seem to remember It took surprisingly little time to adjust . If only the so-called keyboard on my phone was as easy to work ;-o
