Following on from C sus 2 here is a little video discussing its near cousin C sus 4 sus 9.
But why would you drop the 3rd string from a 5th to a 4th. What does this give you and why?

I enjoyed that video too Andy! Thanks for posting it. So rather like DADGAD but with a root on the second string instead of a 5th, and the top string having that interesting twist of whole tone above instead of the root. I can certainly hear some of the Martin Simpson aura in the tuning with what you were playing. What I've seen encourages me to retune one of my guitars this evening and have a noodle around. I'll second what Phil said about your guitar sounding good too. Even if the fan fret did make my eyes feel funny! Mark

at 7:19 on the video - "... the F to G and back again, you will find you break strings". So I went to try out Csus4sus9 last night, and what you said proved 100% true Andy. One big twanging noise as the 3rd string descended towards F! I find it's the 1st and 3rd strings are the casualties in the exploring altered and open tunings. Two of each in the last 6 months or so - but as you say it's likely the strings are starting to go when they break anyway. I didn't have much time to try it out after being delayed by that problem, but what I heard and found makes me think I'll keep exploring the tuning - it's interesting how a change of one tone on one string can alter the basic character of a tuning so much! My 3rd is up and down like a yoyo and it tends to snap after 6-8 weeks. One tip. Don't retune that string when cold. Play it a bit before changing up or down.
