The other day I decided to have a shot at arranging Air on a G string by Bach for classical guitar. Initially I though it would be quite easy but it ended up taking a good few days. Anyway, here's the result. So if you enjoy J.S.Bach then this is for you...Comments welcome
I've included a poll so please click above

Loved it - but enjoyed your Brahms' Hungarian Folk Dance even more (which came up on YouTube straight after this) Probably needs shifting to The Plucky Duck, though... Martin, ocarolan, Wild Violet

I thought about the PD, but in view of Mark's invitation to discuss the suitability of the piece for guitar, and the inclusion of a poll, I have moved it to Playing and Technique. Keith

The arrangement 'worked' for me - any difficulties in the arranging were transparent, interest was kept up, with a 'consistency' if I might call it that, throughout. I thought it was better than good so I voted 'Amazing' ..... Nice expressive playing as well, of course.

I thought it was great. You let the melody breathe and don't try to fill all the spaces, which I think is important for this piece. I don't think I've heard this arranged as a solo piece before, but it didn't sound like there was anything missing.

I wish more JS Bach was played this expressively on classical guitar. Some JS Bach suits the guitar very well when arranged right, and your arrangement here is most definitely one that suits very well. I found that getting a good result from Bach on classical guitar makes strong demands on a players technique and interpretative skills, even on simpler pieces. Your technique and playing skill allowed a beautiful result here. Mark

Thanks for all your comments. I'm pleased it's liked. Since, I've seen a few other people play the tune and I'm quite pleased

I think this is one of the best-suited Bach pieces to classical guitar - a gorgeous melody supported by harmony underneath... over 6 million views on Per Olov's rendition on youtube. I have to say I really like your arrangement - though simpler it loses none of the impact... definitely amazing!

Thanks man. I dropped over and checked the other version you mentioned. To be honest, I prefer my version. Not to be dismissive of the other but I've arranged it in the intended key and I version or sound arrogant but think it contains a better representation of the various voices. Looks like he's done very well with his channel.

Very nice. I reckon it will translate will simply because it is a piece people know and will enjoy listening to. I carries the essence of the piece and I wouldn't worry about complicating he arrangement at all. Lovely listening.
