My bands are in a state of flux just now, so I may be doing more solo gigs. I've done two solo pub gigs over the last fortnight and I was feeling quite disenchanted with the whole idea - I get the same fee, work much harder and have less to offer show-wise. Then my clever wife suggested a looper to make my solo show more interesting. And d'you know, I think she's onto something. I play a lot of bluegrass music, but I can't play lead without the rhythm. Vocal harmony too would be much more interesting, and some percussion in the style of KT Tunstall. It's actually got me quite excited and so I've spent a good few hours reviewing the different loopers on the market. I'm thinking that the Boss RC-30 would suit my needs well enough, and just happens to be what KT Tunstall is using just now.
Are there any solo acoustic players out there using loopers for gigs? What are you using? Has it upped your game? Does it help to gain audience interest?

I have an occasional collaborator who uses them well. She spends hours creating loops and textures. I just wouldn't have the patience! Good luck!

I know I've got some learnin' to do, but I enjoy technology and gear, so it'll be fun. I just hope I can use it well for live solo shows. I think it'll work.

they can certainly work. You just have to remember when to press the pedal — a technical feat which seems top be beyond me :-)

It arrived yesterday and my day off was today! That never happens!
I spent a few hours with it today and it's great! I think it'll make solo gigs so much more fun and entertaining. There's a learning curve to it for sure and I'm going to have to rearrange a lot of material, but that's part of keeping it fun and revitalising songs I've been playing for years!
I shot a video demo today seeing as it was the first day with it.

I don't use a looper. I don't use a looper. I don't use a looper. I don't use a looper.
Or do I?
