I think they are excellent guitars, I have never owned one but have owned the multiac jazz, and it was very good, just got a bit complicated for my liking. The nylon ones are very good, but in my opinion you really need to have a specific purpose in mind to get the best out of this type of instrument. After trying crossover guitars, I eventually ended up with a regular classical which suits me better.

O.k. thanks, yes i think they may be a bit of a one trick pony, i'm into the jerry reed type of music but i also like sweet fingerstyle ballads...so perhaps not a guitar that would do both....will have to do a bit more thinking....or try and find a secondhand one... Thanks Rob

They are excellent but they are definitely an acquired taste. I had a steel string one and sent it back because it was heavy and the sound was not what I expected. Taylor do a similar guitar which whilst I didn't buy was arguably more versatile. But these were steel string. I have tried loads of nylon guitars in an attempt to find something that is great sounding amplified and on the advice of Pat Coldrick I sourced an older Takamine and love it.

There was a young feller busking classical guitar repertoire in York yesterday. Playing one of those Yamaha silent guitars. I hung around to have a chat about how it played.....but he saw me approach him and went straight into playing Asturias. He sounded great on it. Unfortunately I didnt get to see what type of amp he was going through. I fancy getting one!

They do have a plastic sound and I was dissapointed and sent it back. In regards to the Takamine I put mine for sale a few weeks ago but decided it was too good to sell and that `i would probably not find another one. If you check out Pat Coldrick you get a feel for it. He uses a stereo set up and two tc electronics pedals.

I have a Yamaha NCX 1200R (pickup is System61 2way A.R.T.) and the amplified sound is really good, very true representation of the acoustic tone. It goes through batteries fairly quickly but otherwise it's excellent. I run it through an Aer Acousticube.

Hi, I'm new to this forum so hope you don't mind me joining in on this thread. I've had a bit of a yearning for a Multiac Nylon for a few years now though not quite sure why as I've still not had the opportunity to actually play one yet. I'll be really interested to get any views and opinions on it, both the SA and the Duet Ambiance. I had a Yamaha SLG silent nylon for a while and it was surprisingly good through headphones, but I could never get a sound I was happy with through my AER amp. I also have a Taylor NS32CE small bodied nylon string guitar which is quite old and has a Fishman system in it. Interestingly, reviews I have read about the Taylor generally knocked it for being poor acoustically, although very good plugged in. Personally, I find the Taylor has a beautiful acoustic sound and balance to it, plenty of projection for me and played through my old AER amp sounds great. I must admit that most of the Multiacs I have found on YouTube don't sound that great, which seems a bit of an anomaly to me as they appear to be highly rated and used by professionals. My interest is mainly in the Nylon Duet Ambiance so would would be interested to hear about any views or experiences of these.

I believe the multiacs which are really a salad bowl guitar have quite a lot of sustain, probably o.k. for reed muted funky type playing but not for standard classical playing...not played one for a few years but always felt a need to get one, but thinking i may go the takamine or similar route. Rob😊

I had an Ovation once and I think they were referred to as salad bowls.
