Last week I idly leafed at random through a page or two of the Tabs that go with the new CD by davewhite! I was startled to find that they were not as impossibly difficult as I feared. I hear beautiful music and tend to think that it must be technically very difficult. OK .... to be honest it IS still difficult for ME to play it well enough and to play it up to speed, but I'm getting the distinct impression that Dave has that trick of making such good note choices that relatively simple passages produce lovely music. The players technique in playing those relatively simple passages does get shown up for how good or bad it is though. I am feeling that the real skill on this CD is in the composition and in his flawless playing! I'm hoping that by the time my physical presence on this planet is done, that I'll maybe get a decent performance on a few of these, if I keep at them every day. I've honed in on one track the last 5 days. A very long way to go with it still, but even at 80% speed and a far from flawless rendering, my "Diamond House" gives me some encouragement. I do so like the notes and the way the musical ideas flow. My first time of playing in CGCFCD tuning and I love it's sounds on this piece using the all Mahogany Giltrap. I dropped the repeats due to my difficulty in playing the notes right even once, and I did lose the place, and the pace, a bit, here and there. I've been enjoying it all hugely though! "Diamond House" - not quite a gem in my hands!I heartily recommend the TABS option for anyone acquiring the CD from Dave. Mark

Mark, Sounds good to me - you've got the essence of the piece. Speed and fluency come with practice and getting the muscle memory established. It's not an easy piece and my playing definitely isn't flawless I'm glad you are having fun exploring the tunes.

Thank you Dave. That's encouraging words and I appreciate them. I am certainly having fun exploring the tunes, and live in the hope that at least some of your skill in note choices might make itself apparent to me and help me in my own attempts at putting tunes together. On the clean note producing technique I do despair at the way too many squeaks, clunks and also buzzes from moving strings on the backs of left hand nails litter my playing. But I keep on in hope that it's gradually improving! Mark
