I like the idea of weekly blogs Jonny are you doing anything on simple fingerpicking that would be good for me

Yes Paul, once our move is underway and we're settled, I plan to do a more steel string thing - but the point of these is not to repeat what hundreds of YouTube tutorials already offer.
Later today I plan to upload a video on playing barré chords, so, less niche.

I hope that the bar chords are going well Onechordtrick. Here's the next video - this one not at all reserved for classical playing: harmonics. I look at natural and artificial harmonics and a technique nicked from Phil Keaggy which sounds impressive, but is really straightforward. If you've ever struggled achieving a clear harmonic, the tips should help. Cheers, Jonny

Here's another, this time to help LH finger independence and stretching - not that basic, but once grasped, addictive and really useful. Cheers Jonny

Here's one to help reduce tension and effort when using the thumb, usually glossed over, but all part of encouraging relaxed playing. Cheers Jonny

I've followed this thread with interest from the start and become quite addicted to the Guitar Basics Blog, but not commented until now. As someone who has been playing for years but seems to encounter so many brick walls that prevent me from progressing as I feel I should, these videos have been invaluable to me. They have really helped me identify areas of weakness which until now, I was unaware of and make me think my time would probably have been better spent learning a lot more about technique rather than just concentrating on being able to play particular tunes. I always thought my main left hand weakness was my little finger, which always seems to fret at an odd angle compared to the others, but have now realised from the finger exercises that the major weakness is in fact control of my third finger. I've also realised now just how much I fail to relax and so put too much effort into aspects of playing. That's good because I know what to work on now. I guess one thing this this experience shows is that although being self taught clearly works well for some people, there must others like me who would have done and probably still can do so much better with professional lessons and I'm already giving that some serious thought. Thanks again for great videos.

Ok here's the a thing Jonny. I am playing a song with has the following Chords Em, C, D, Bm, C, Repeat then G em C D. My problem is that I can't always get a clean change when I play the Bm from the D
2 in 5 .I am watching the L/H when I change but invariably its not a clean change Whys is this, it doesn't happen with other chords I have tried going to D7 then BM which is slightly better but not perfect
Bonkers of Bridgford

Jonny If you consider that I've been following this thread from the start and have taken this long to comment, I think there must be plenty more like me who you are unaware of benefiting from your lessons. You're more than welcome to quote me on your site and yes, I would love to hook up on Skype. I've seen the Skype lesson details on your site, so please just let me know any further details I may need to know. Thanks, Jeff
