Does anybody know anything about or have an opinion about the Taylor Doyle Dykes guitar? Cheers, Dale

That's a good question. I thought it was solid. It's maple under the black finish, if that helps.

If it is solid it will be an interesting guitar. Taylor’s play beautifully and can sound fabulous. They are doing interesting stuff with maple - probably why it is dyed black!

The wider string spacing sounds good.
Why are you so attracted to this particular guitar?

I have the opportunity to buy one at a price far less than the Vintage and rare retail price and in as new condition. I've played it and love the extra fingerboard width. The Baggs pickup sounded wonderful too.

There were two Doyle Dykes guitars made by Taylor, the second being laminate back and sides and considerably cheaper - www.premierguitar.com/articles/Taylor_Guitars_Doyle_Deluxe_Acoustic_Guitar_ReviewI may have played one of the original, more expensive ones, but can't remember much about it I'm afraid. I did see DD two or three times when he did events for Taylor, and he certainly made it sound good. But then he's a stunningly good player...

Thanks for the replies andyhowell and Riverman. It's the original all solid version and I'm hoping for enough negative comments to stop me obsessing over raising the funds to buy it. The wider fingerboard 1 3/4@" suits me very well and the LR Baggs system sounds superb. The build quality is excellent and the price is irresistible. I'm not doing very well at putting myself off buying, am I?

earthbalm, let me get this straight. You have posted on this forum looking for reasons not to buy a great guitar that you can raise the money for. It’s almost like you’ve never been here before. Who are you and what have you done with the real Earthbalm?

Clearly, this is an open and shut case. I’ve played some fabulous Taylor’s over the years. If it speaks to you that loudly, we’ll ....

I'll give you a negative comment...it's got a Yorkshire symbol on the headstock. You're welcome.

Thanks for the input everybody. Still undecided but will probably pass as I'm not out playing live and therefore... I don't believe the purchase is merited.
