Looking at the detail, it appears you do get a free Paige capo with your package, so not all bad. Stop misrepresenting these things Riverman Actually, if anyone wants to book the 'bring a loved one' deluxe package with me, get in touch

So for similar money, I can choose between a weekend retreat with a guitar player I'm not interested in, or I could buy a decent second hand guitar. It's a no brainer.

Music for the people. Yeah. I used to like TE when he was doing small clubs and would sit and chat after the show. Of course he deserves all the success he's had but for me this kind of self-elevation, placing him beyond the vast majority of his followers, is nauseating. Those prices are obscene. I'm tempted to trash my TE CD's.

I know the venue. Nicer than Halifax :-)
It seems obscene to me but then think of the premium price that a luthier who ‘apprenticed’ with Somogi or Kostal can charge!
It’s similar I guess -‘studied with Tommy’ might get you a gig or two !

I don't think the price is "obscene" - compared to the price of 4 nights' full board accommodation at a posh hotel in Scotlandshire, plus 4 days tuition and concerts from world-class guitarists - but I'm not a big fan of TE so it doesn't appeal to me.
Having said that I'm now trying to think of guitarists (or any musician) from whom I might be prepared to pay this much for tuiton in a nice venue - not sure I can...

Martin Simpson’s workshops are a bargain against these. I do think these prices are over the top but I guess they are in dollars because the group will be international

I've stayed at the Atholl Palace before. It was really nice - a bit dated at the time, albeit I believe it's had a thorough makeover since then. The surroundings are magnificent, although I'm not sure you'd be able to appreciate them while furiously widdling all day and concert-going at night. At £400 per day, even with meals and lodgings thrown in, it's at the very premium end of guitar workshops, but if Tommy can attract the clients, good luck to him

Obviously, the concept of austerity never reached the antipodean regions.

The guitars should be free at that price.

Obviously, the concept of austerity never reached the antipodean regions. Well, the price for a shared bedroom was pretty extortionate! There's not much else to do in Blair Atholl although Pitlochry down the road is pretty good for horrible and expensive tourist tat. SaveSave
