Congratulations on the new guitar jubbo, and glad you found a store that could help you properly. I hope you have many happy years of playing the Martin. The big stores - and I presume we are talking about one of these - are staffed by electric guitar players. They (often) know little about acoustics and - even worse - are simply not interested in them. Exactly that - well said Andy. My store of choice for acoustic instruments only, Scayles, has only about 40% of the number of stell string acoustics that, say, GuitarGuitar has, but their extra knowledge and keen interest in all things acosutic, and their better instrument set-ups have kept me going back there. Ayr Guitar is my local shop and have always enjoyed my visits there. From the very first time I went there, Simon the owner, quite happily handed me a variety of acoustics to try out over the space of an hour. My kids groan any time we go to the shop as they know we will be there for at least a quarter hour

My kids groan any time we go to the shop as they know we will be there for at least a quarter hour I had them fit a pickup for me and naturally they plugged it into an acoustic amp so I could test it. I ended up coming home with that amp. They're fly like that! I see you're from Prestwick? That's my home town!

Peach Guitars in Colchester. Can recommend Scott, this is the second (or maybe third) guitar I have bought from him. Great lad, patient and knowledgeable in everything (except Taylor model numbering ) Also, the owner John assisted greatly. I honestly wasn't expecting to buy my next guitar from there as I really was interested in a Furch or Maton (which they don't carry). Good to know, they are not too far from me

It's worth the trip if you haven't been already. They used to have a small unit in a craft centre. John worked there, then bought the place. Then they bought TD Guitars in Colchester before combining everything in the new unit. It's kitted out like a wild west saloon with lots of rooms to try guitars. There are 3 Martin rooms, as well as a massive Taylor area. Very nicely done, lots of space. There are two very dangerous rooms, one full of high end (£4k+) Martins and another filled with Lowden. You have been warned!!

So, the miserable trip from a few weeks ago that prompted my thread is the gift that keeps on giving..... A £70 fine for forgetting to pay the Dartford crossing charge dropped though the door this morning. My wife finds it hysterically funny.
At least I did find a new guitar 😃

... maybe you could encourage her to pay half if she thinks it's so funny. Or might that be dangerous.... Just enjoy the guitar anyway! Keith

Think of it as a music tax and enjoy the guitar!
