Andrew - Looking at their tensions they could well work well but will be a different sound to phosphor bronze strings I suspect. Only one way to find out.

If I knew for sure where I would be living in the next few months, I'd have signed up for this - would love to see what you created around those tuners.

I've found silk and steels can work really great on some guitars and can really grate on others. See what I did there! They have a softer feel which appeals to some finger-style players. The lower tension is useful for more fragile guitars too. But they are quieter and not so suited to heavier strumming. They do have a different sound for sure than phosphor bronze. I have Thomastik Infeld Plectrum 11s (125 lbs total tension) on my all mahogany Tanglewood parlour and they really bring out and enhance its sound so well. I did try them on one of my other guitars (can't remember which) and the results were bad - they didn't manage a week before I had to change them. I was thinking it would be useful for whoever passes the guitar on to the next person in the chain to confirm what type / gauge of strings are currently on the guitar. Mark

You'll never guess what I'll be trying first...... Well, alright, you did. Yes, Newtone Heritage 11-47 - which is what I use on my Fylde Ariel tuned up terzliferously, so I have a set or two. Which is just as well, as Fretsounds seem to be out of these right now. Keith

I shall (as I have already agreed with Dave) be using a set of Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze extra lights (10/50).
I'm thinking that with a lovely tinkly guitar that these will add a little extra zing. I'll be interested to know whether it works, and I'll let you all know next week (cos I get the little beastie on Sunday!).
Can't wait!

Thanks Dave. Looking forward to it. leoroberts gavdav sure we can work out arrangements. Leo - easy for me to get to yours from work. Sounds like a plan, K Tresp . It's no problem for me to get it to gavdav in God's Own City, either, if that's easier for you

Here's an updated schedule for the Road Trip: 17th - 30th March: Dale ( earthbalm), Caerphilly 7th - 20th April: Gav ( gavdav), Liverpool 21st April – 4th May: Leo ( leoroberts), Eccles 5th – 18th May: Greg ( K Tresp), Didsbury 19th May – 1st June: free 2nd – 15th June: Iain ( lavaman), West Kirkby 16th – 29th June: Andy ( andyhowell), Birmingham 14th – 27th July: Mark ( vikingblues), North Berwick 28th July – 10th August: Martin ( Martin), Hamilton 11th – 24th August: Cams ( Cams), Arran 25th August – 7th September: Andrew ( stringdriventhing), Penicuik 22nd September – 5th October: Rob ( robmc), Norwich 3rd – 17th November: James ( jubbo), Braintree sweyne1 has had to pull out and I've moved the dates for gavdav back. There is now a two week gap between K Tresp and lavaman which if it stays means they can both extend their time with "An Féa Caol" and extra week if they so wish.
