I was tasked by my local pub to source a cheap acoustic to be used as the pub guitar so I've been checking Cash Converters and the like. Today I came across a suitable beast for £25 and have been cleaning it up and restringing it. It's a Gear4music dreadnought and I have to say I'm pretty impressed by it for a cheapie. The action is reasonable and the intonation isn't bad at all. It appears to retail at about £60 new and it's made me realise just how much better starter guitars are now than when I got my first back in the Dark Ages. That thing had an action that could be measured in inches rather than mm and it's a wonder I ever carried on playing. (Actually I feel disloyal calling it "that thing" it set me on the road to musical happiness, even if I can't now remember whatever happened to it.) I'm quite pleased with my purchase and tomorrow will have the further pleasure of taking it to the pub where I'll have to stay for a while to help settle it into its new home.

A selfless task well executed! Make sure you really do stay long enough for the guitar to feel totally happy in its new surroundings! Keith

Always keen to take advice, I did indeed stay longer in the pub today than was perhaps strictly necessary, but guitar is now safely in its new home. I will pop back in again tomorrow just to make sure. I'm thoughtful like that.

Of course you will need to be going in every night to check the tuning

True dedication there, guzzler, you don't get after-sales service like that just anywhere. Keith
