Prompted by this thread: acousticsoundboard.co.uk/thread/8648/tab-notation-ipads I’ve just bought a copy of tabledit software. My requirement was to generate mandolin tabs from standard notation and it does this perfectly. It can generate tabs for a range of preloaded instruments or you can enter your own tuning. Once over the initial learning hump the interface is quite intuitive. You can either enter notes in notation or tablature and it coverts one from the other, note duration is controlled by the function keys. Simple to add rests, repeat marks etc.. As well as it’s own TEF format it can generate other formats such as abc, MusicXML and Midi. I also downloaded the iPad app which reads and plays the TEF files which I found a great boost to learning new tunes. I’m sure it does a lot more as well, haven’t had a chance to explore. All in in all it does wha I wanted it to do.
