earthbalm - Dale, Fair Annie is gorgeous - beautifully played, and perhaps the best sound I've heard on an Anthea recording - it really captures her spirit - doesn't sound boomy at all to me, -perhaps a bit "old stringy" but that's a good thing IMHO, and the trebles are a delight - chimey, clear and ringing.

Thanks ocarolan, that's very kind of you. It was recorded before I recorded "Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór" with the mic in a different position. It's amazing how much you learn about recording (and yourself) when trying to do justice to somebody else's guitar. I'm trying to record my arrangement of the "Ashokan Farewell" with a "Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone" (that's what it says on the box) at the moment. "An Féa Caol" sounds far more like the real thing but all I hear is my breathing. I can imagine the suggestions to solve that problem .

Thanks Robbie. I take that as a big compliment as I love your arrangement here, also in Csus2.

Once I managed to open them I found the recordings to be brilliant. Really, really enjoyed them. Definitely a Phil

Thanks very much Phil. Apologies for the difficulty with Dropbox, I didn't realise that they could be such a pain to access particularly on mobile devices. Dale

Thanks robmc and vikingblues . I'm hoping to adjust the set up at the weekend when I get more time. I have a Samson condenser mic (which was ready to sell this Easter) and cradle and I'm hoping to try them out shortly. I also recorded a couple of very short pieces prior to "Sí Bheag, Sí Mhór". I've linked to them one of the below, purely for reference. It's my take on Martin Simpson's intro and verse for "Fair Annie" (The Bramble Briar version). The recording is a little boomy and pre application of "Fast Fret". FileI didn't know this tune, but its a beauty isn't it, as is your performance of it. Really love the tone you are getting out of Dave's guitar

Thanks very much Robbie. Here is a video of Martin Simpson performing 'Fair Annie' live in Bristol in 2002. David's guitar has such a beautiful ringing and bell-like tone but I can't seem to capture a faithful recording of it. I shall keep trying. Cheers Dale

I'm getting a little guilty about not posting more audio files but I seem to be unable to record without mistakes and with fidelity to Anthea's tone. Here's a short recording of my DADGAD arrangement of the Welsh folk song "Dacw 'Nghariad (There is my love)". I thought that this beautiful guitar shouldn't spend its time in Wales without playing something originally written in the Welsh language. The playing is not without errors, sorry. File

Dacw 'Nghariad is really lovely, Dale - like the tune very much and the sound and playing present it beautifully. Errors not conspicuous at all - all of us tend to be overcritical of our own recordings though. V enjoyable! Keith

Dale, Really liked "Dacw 'Nghariad" and nice to hear a Welsh tune played on one of my instruments. The last one I had was played by a talented Welsh musician Matt Rowland on the fretless banjo "Llinos" I made for him - “Morfa’r Frenhines” – “The Queen’s March” in gEADE tuning: “Morfa’r Frenhines”

FileAnother excellent piece Dale. You shouldn't feel the need to apologise for this and I didn't notice any mistakes because the playing and sound is so good. This little guitar does seem to excel in this style of playing. Looking forward to your next piece Phil

Many thanks Mike Floorstand , ocarolan , davewhite and Phil Taylor for the words of encouragement. Hoping to get some new strings on An Féa Caol this weekend and record some more pieces. This thread was / is the first time I've posted any of my acoustic guitar playing on the interweb thingy so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of feedback but this forum is always supportive! Enjoyed the fretless banjo recording davewhite , thanks and BIG thanks for letting me borrow this beautiful little guitar. Cheers all, Dale
