Thanks davewhite. This is one of my arrangements where recording with such a 'clear' (can't think of a better word at the moment) guitar makes me very much aware of where I need to develop not just in this arrangement but generally in my playing and arranging. So again, at the risk of sounding like a stuck record, thanks very much for this opportunity. Dale

Enjoyed Cranham, Dale - very good sounds indeed, and an interestingly different arrangement without being weird! Keith

Thanks ocarolan and andrewjw and lavaman. There is something that I haven't mentioned... the 1 3/4 nut width. It was only this morning when I returned to playing one of my own guitars that I realised Anthea's fingerboard is 1 3/4 inches. I wondered why on Earth my fingers were struggling on another guitar's fingerboard, so I took out a tape to measure An Féa Caol. Because of the neck shape and depth, I hadn't realise the Terz guitar's board was wider. It is so comfortable! Dale

I realised this morning that I hadn't played An Féa Caol with a capo. I found that I preferred the sound of a Jim Dunlop trigger capo to a G7th at least for this brace of Ralph Vaughan Williams tunes that I arranged shortly after beginning playing steel string acoustic in 2006 (needless to say that I'm going back to change the arrangements given all I've learned this last fortnight). Again, no EQ, no compression, no reverb. FileDale

I’m genuinely dreading my turn... can you try and be a bit rubbish for once?

Very nice playing once again Dale! You're making a great set of demos for the guitar. I’m genuinely dreading my turn... can you try and be a bit rubbish for once? Unusually, given my usual Eeyore frame of mind, I find myself thinking it's maybe taking the pressure off those of us later in the chain. The good reputation of the guitar will already be firmly established. In truth, beneath that bravado, I feel just like you do about it Leo! Mark

Thanks davewhite , leoroberts , robmc and vikingblues . I wasn't sure about posting that particular file though I don't know why. Rest assured, I find it all too easy to be rubbish, Leo. It's an extremely nice comment you've made Mark though I'm not sure I deserve it. What I do know is that playing An Féa Caol has given me the impetus to get to work properly on my playing, arranging and performing. As well as the sweet tone I've mentioned before, the guitar helps to develop clean articulation (if you know what I mean). I very nearly took it out to a jam session this week as I have a feeling it will 'cut through' most guitar tones. Unfortunately, I have to return her after the bank holiday. Cheers all, Dale

Beautifully played Dale, thoroughly enjoyed listening to your playing and Dave's guitar over the course of its stay in Wales! leoroberts and vikingblues, how about we combine to form a not-so-super group, 'The Nun, The Viking and That Bloke (who looks like a spaniel) from Norwich'

Thanks ocarolan . Unfortunately, fate has decided that I'm not going to be able to spend much time with An Féa Caol (a malfunctioning washing machine has much to do with it). It's been a fantastic experience and I'm looking forward to meeting davewhite on Tuesday though not looking forward to handing the guitar back. Below is a cowboy tune recorded yesterday. When I sing it, it's "Only The Hangman is Waiting for Me / Gold in the Mountains" but the tune is also known as "Streets of Laredo", "The Unfortunate Rake" or "The Bard of Armagh". Dale File

Thanks for the likes davewhite, Phil Taylor and robmc. I think that the file above was probably the most balanced recording I did of An Féa Caol. I moved the mic about a foot from the guitar (as most people would advise) which avoided the worst of the proximity effect. Will be sad to hand her back tomorrow but looking forward to meeting Dave. I hope to post a 'conclusion' of my experience with this wonderful little instrument later today. Cheers, Dale

Deed done and (sadly) An Féa Caol returned to davewhite. Unfortunately, I took a camera to document the hand over but left the battery charging at home. Had a very informative talk with Dave (some great advice too) and I'd like to say thanks to him and this forum for the opportunity to spend time with a beautiful guitar. I'm jealous of the forum members who have their turn yet to come. I shall be awaiting posts eagerly. I can recommend Dave's CD "Diamonds in the Rough" too - I listened to it twice during the drive back to South Wales. Will post the promised review later. I need to get pics to my blog first so that I may post them here... Dale
