I love Dave Evans music and I think I have everything on vinyl well. I think I could play one or two back in the day as well - Jolymont springs to mind and also Jessica. Very difficult I thought at the time. Couldn't play them now.....

Looking forward to this Francis Will it be the extra long scale length? Phil Hi Phil, No. because it has a cutaway rather than a full body it will have a short scale with a 12th fret neck body join. Do they work ok with 630mm scale length? Phil

There was a thread on here a while back and, IIRC, some of our esteemed colleagues were tempted, and were going to report back. I wonder if Blue Chip do a thumb-pick? Although, at the rate I get through thumb-picks (they become loose, and thus no good) I wouldn't want to pay more than a pound or so for a pick. :-) That would be me I suspect. Haven't taken the plunge yet but I have birthday coming up....... Phil

What a superb looking guitar that is. The attention to detail is excellent.

Daddy stovepipe bought one a few weeks ago and here’s his review. Phil A great discovery for me, in many ways. Thanks, Phil. What an interesting dude Carl Bludts is; I have subscribed to his YouTube and he is someone I will return to. That Lakewood looks like some guitar for about £2.5k. I wonder if they would charge extra for making me one without that dreadful logo... Peter I’m not keen on the logo either. Yes, Carl is an interesting guy in many ways. I’ve been following him for many years. He’s a nice guy too 🙂

Been doing some research. It occurs to me that not many people ever talk about Lakewood guitars on here. Does anyone own one? Are they any good? At the time I bought the Huss & Dalton I did play a Lakewood but must say it didn't do anything for me, but wondered if the higher spec models were worth a look? Robbie Daddy stovepipe bought one a few weeks ago and here’s his review. Phil

I do everything delb0y talks about in terms of playing the piece over and over etc but I still struggle recording and it usually takes multiple takes and in double figures. I also struggle with concentration when recording. I read or heard someone’s observation that “thinking is the enemy of flow” and that is so true. My mind wanders and I start thinking I’m doing ok here or not long to go etc. and that’s when the mistakes happen. I sweat too 😂

The Orsino would do - but I’m only dreaming so why limit myself? 😀 Yes, not a lot of RB in the video - but rather too much of Ben Harper with his guitars in front of a radiator… Leo, I know of a Brook guitar that may soon be for sale and you would only have to wait…well no time at all really 😉

In around 1983 I swapped my Gibson ‘The Paul’ for an Ovation Balladeer at a shop in Bingley, West Yorkshire. It was ok but I do recall it slipping off my lap. Fortunately it got stolen when we were burgled in 1985 and was never recovered. I replaced it with a Takamine F360c which was a nice guitar. Sorry for posting something that’s not really anything to do with the original post….. Unfortunately I’ve owned a few guitars I should have kept…..

BUM ! I just wrote a LOOONG answer to Forest dweller, about how to choose a BC pick and was researching my facts -and lost it! Deep breath -start again ! Almost all picks have thickness measured in millimetres. BC measure in decimals of inches. As the BC market is usuall more experienced players the thinnest they offer is 1 m/m (40/1000" - eg "40"). They do 40 =1 m/m 50 1.25 m/m, 60 1.5m/m, 80 - 2m/m etc. They do various shapes - my first was my first large triangle - known internationally as 346 - BC call it TAD. 346/TAD shapes have definite advantages over 351/teardrop/ shapes : 1. they are easier to hold 2. there is more mass 3. the "points are more like 60 degrees that 351s - more acute 4. you get three points instead of one!!! You need to specify the speed bevel (which is a very important aspect) - as long ago implemented by Wegen, and since copied by Dunlop on their "Primetone" copies of Blue Chips. I play right handed and order RH speed bevel. BCs are made of a composite material by Dupont called Vespal designed for low/no maintenance, minimal wear/ self lubricating applications, thus ideal for picks as - they NEVER wear out. Hope that helps. Thanks for the info. The JP Guitars website for BC picks gives the thickness is mm as well.
