Thought of another way to put this - You cannot find a better tuner than the 510s. You can find tuners that look fancier or cost more. But from a players point of view, you will not find any with better performance. From a makers point of view, they are also the easiest to worth with - I find Gotoh screw-in bushings far more satisfactory than traditional press-in bushings. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

Over the years I've tried pretty much every tuner out there. Including some of the lovely looking "handmade" ones. Gotoh 510s are without question the best performance-wise. And I've never had a single issue with one. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

So, the finishing is done and the satin nitro is cured. THe next step is to glue on the bridge and neck: THen string her up and ignore her for a couple of weeks. After that its time to do the final setup - frets, acrion, relief, intonation, pickup and pickguard. Now she's off to Jim in New South Wales. Expect to see this guitar bouzouki on the next Midnight Oil tour... Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

I think you mentioned a while back about releasing a book on the cylinder top construction, is that still in the pipe (!) line? I can only guess it is done using cylinder clamping board and having the arching in the braces? Cheers Oli I wrote it on holiday a few years ago but I've never got around to finishing it. To be honest, I'd probably only sell a dozen copies or so. So they'd have to be very expensive to be worth the bother of finishing it off. Mind other makers have done similar things. Hans Brentup in the US sells his small spiral bound photocopied books about his Larson style guitars for about £100 or so. Maybe I should set up a Go Fund Me page or Kickstarter or whatever it is. If I knew I was going to get paid prior to taking the time, I'd do it. As it is, I've plenty to be doing. n

Finally got around to making the video. I tried one day - but the lorikeets were going nuts, when they calmed down a kid on a motorbike was tearing around the field. Then the kookaburras started a scrap. Then the ice cream van turned up... So please excuse the wild like noises in the background. Put your headphones in and enjoy... A couple of lads came down from Brisbane the other week. Christian, the first in the video is an Aussie, a nice lad and a great player. He came down with Martin, a fellow Englishman who has been here for years. We had a great afternoon. Plenty of tea, tunes and laughs. Here they are trying out another parlour King tenor guitar. Hard to say Phil. They are different, but similar. I need to spend a bit more time with them. Its not just how they differ, but which would suit what? I'll try to get a video done next week, playing the same tunes on both, with fingers and with a pick. Then you can compare yourself. Best, Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com

Two guitars, made from identical bits of wood. Consecutive Italian spruce soundboards from the same log. Matching sapele back and sides from the same log. Matching Pacific maple necks from the same board...this was an experiment I started back in 2017 when we lived in Germany. I've been a bit busy, so I've only just had time to finish them off. So, what is the difference between them? Why do it? Well, one is a Model S-SS. That is my "Standard soundboard." Based on the work I did with Stefan Sobell in the 90s.and early 00s. The other is a Model S-HO. A cylinder top. An X braced version of a Howe Orme. Actually, both guitars have exactly the same bracing pattern too. With braces cut from the same board. You can read a bit more on my blog. Hopefully, I'll get a video made in the next week or so. Nigel www.nkforsterguitars.com/blog/twins/

I'm just through a dreadful binding experience. So I ordered binding tape and super glue yesterday (together with lots of other things) at the StewMac department at Madinter. Only problem is that they only sell the orange version of binding tape, which is mainly for plastic binding. Which one did you use? Ps/ I love your pop rivet dots! the brown...
