I came across this tune which I can't get out of my head I found some dots for it on the www.jazzguitar.be/forum/ but I'm struggling to understand some of the chord formulae Here's the dots tinypic.com/view.php?pic=315bmmv&s=6#.XFoOM9Gnyf1I've asked on the forum but have had no response The first chord appears to be described as Dm/7# does it really mean Dm with a sharpened 7 in the bass? I don't know what to make of 7Dm7 Bm7-5 I assume is Bm7flat5 Is 5Dm a Dminor with the 5th in the treble What is 7Bb7 Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think there's been an attempt to write the chord symbols played on one instrument plus an indication of the descending bass line played on a different instrument. Play the simplest version of the chord on one guitar and add the "conflicting " notes on another.
Plus the melody on yet another - there's clearly 3 guitars on the recording when the main theme enters at 15 sec. - melody, rhythm, descending (mostly) bassline.
The first 14 sec of the vid is an intro not notated on the dots picture - this begins at 15 sec on the vid with the choon and a descending bassline
Hence for example, this is what I'm hearing - Bar 1 Dm for 4 beats. Bassline is D then Db (the #7), 2 beats each. Bar 2 Dm7 for 2 beats. Bm7b5 (as you supposed) for two beats. Bassline C for 2 beats. B for 2 beats. etc
The 5Dm sounds to be Dm, but there'd be an A in the bass by then listening to the sequence.
Wouldn't worry too much about how they've notated it - it looks a bit like some of my attempts at reminding myself what happens in an arrangement - doesn't look technically correct but is good enough to remind me!
I reckon your ears will serve you better than deciphering exactly what is meant by the idiosyncratic scribbles.
Is that remotely helpful, Andy. Love the tune by the way!

I'll have another go at working it out and then start digging about for more forgotten gems

I saw the thread heading and thought it might be Sabbath/Tony Iommi related......my apologies.

You should try watching a Rick Beato video. Try this one:
