Hello everyone!
it's been a little while since I last posted here, I've had some interesting times trying to log on to the forum of late, this evening it worked!
I wanted to share the finale of series 1 of Luthier Stories which has taken me all over the world to spend time with the men and women that make the some of the finest guitars on earth. This time I was in the USA again, on a great American road trip with my acoustic partner in crime Jason Kostal. We had been invited to a weekend of guitar type activity in Texas and had agreed that the least practical way to get there from Jason's home in Phoenix Arizona would be to drive. And so we did!
This 1000 mile journey gave us the chance to look back over our first decade working together and touch on a variety of topics from the BBQ and spaghetti diet of a certain E. A. Presley, arch tops, flat tops, ukuleles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, bats, the usual...
anyway, here it is, I hope you enjoy it, it took me ages!
all the best
MDW

I’m sad to say I watched it all through in one go. I must say Jason’s dry sense of humour is a bit advanced for Americans. The man is a star.
There could be a series here - Two On A Road Trip to ......

I really enjoyed this. The distraction of driving seems to help people relax and be more themselves. Jason’s dry sense of humour would almost qualify him for honorary Yorkshireman status.

Great video. I am about half way through.
What is the difference between Jason's 14-fret MDW and a regular Mod D, then?

Series 2 is already in the pipeline but if I could get funding for a "The Trip" style series I'd jump at the chance! All the best MDW

Great video. I am about half way through. What is the difference between Jason's 14-fret MDW and a regular Mod D, then? Good question! I go into some detail about the thoughts and plans behind the MDW model in this video It's basically a cross between a Modified Dreadnought and a Kostal OO model. Involving a complete re-think of both models. Seriously, Jason put in a huge amount of work and made a wonderful guitar which is now his best selling model! All the best MDW

I found watching this strangely relaxing. I'm laid up with a bad back and a bit high on Morphine though so that might have something to do with it. It's amazing how many makers there are around the world who are making some utterly beautiful guitars and yet most of us still go to the big makers. I wonder why? I know Jason's guitars are mad expensive but there are loads of makers who make reasonably priced guitars. I'd love to play one of those just to see what a £16,000 plus guitar sounds like. If you see Jason again Michael ask him if he feels like donating one to a poor crippled guitar player from Leeds. (O:

I've lived with lower back weirdness following a fencing injury years ago. It can be really grim so I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it distracted for a little while!
