Two great performances of Kris's music.
This is one gig I wish I'd been at, the musicianship on display here transcends music genre. I'm not really a country fan, but Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristopherson just take the music and make it truly memorable ( love Willies solo on Trigger on Loving her). I do have the whole two hours on DVD. Just these two of Kris's songs show why I gave up trying to write lyrics.

colins When I am writing lyrics there are some people I just have to stop listening to for a few weeks! Lyric writing is about the most masochistic thing you can do.

I'm really enjoying this series - and amazed at the amount of the history and characters involved that I already knew!

Ken Burns is just a great story-teller. He gets into the characters behind the subject and makes it all very human. I quite fancy watching his series on Baseball. I know nothing about baseball, don't even understand the rules, but I can imagine it'll be a great series.

I really like country music, mostly honky tonk and Bakersfield. In America it is huge and ingrained in the culture to an extent that isn't really appreciated in the UK and it's sometimes difficult to understand from my provincial British viewpoint. I've heard a lot about this series from American country websites and really wanted to see it. I didn't realise it was on UK TV. Problem is now though, I'm overseas until the new year and can't access iplayer!

This series started life on PBS America which for those of you who have a free view box is now available in the Uk but you may need to retune

The series finally started in Australia last night on SBS. I enjoyed episode one.

Brilliant series. I enjoyed it so much I considered buying the full length boxset, but it looks like it'll only play on US DVd players. I'd probably never have watched it again anyway, but it was good.

I had then all recorded and just watched the last one on Friday. Despite the fact that I'm not mad keen on country/hillbilly/bluegrass I found the programmes exceptional and so did my wife who is even less keen on this genre. Lots of names that I knew but didn't really know where their music fitted in and fascinating family relationships and 'musical politics'. What's more the whole series gave a superb background on American 20th Century history and culture and showed where the musical development fitted in with the changing environment. Worth watching again!
