You heard the rumors from Inez You can't believe a word she says Most times, but this time it was true
Taylor Swift ~ betty. I must confess I’d dismissed her as a “manufactured pop princess” without listening to much of her music but folklore is my favourite album of 2020. Really turned my opinion of her through 180o she’s a talented songwriter and a great performer; if you can try to watch her NPR Tiny Desk performance or, if it’s still available, athe along Pond Sessions.

Does he ride a red nosed reindeer? Does he turn up on his sleigh Do the fairies keep him sober for a day?

If songs were lines in a conversation, the situation would be fine - Nick Drake, Hazey Jane II

I would rather see this world through the eyes of a child (Aurora)
She was a rare thing fine as a bee’s wing So fine a breath of wind might blow her away (Richard Thompson)
As I sat lookin’ up the Guinness ad I could never figure out How your man stayed up on the surfboard after 14 pints of stout. (Christy Moore)

I think we have forgotten probably the greatest song line of all time, "Refrets, I've done a few they pay the bills, like all repairs do" From Goofier Loofier by someone called leoroberts .

I’ve always liked Guy Clark’s lyrics - this is from The Dublin Blues:
I have been to Fort Worth, mm And I have been to Spain And I have been too proud To come in out of the rain And I have seen the David, mm I've seen the Mona Lisa, too And I have heard Doc Watson Play Columbus Stockade Blues

Posted with no apologies Warren Zevon summed things up pretty well
Well, I went to the doctor I said, "I'm feeling kind of rough" He said, "I'll break it to you, son" "Let me break it to you, son" Your shit's fucked up." I said, "my shit's fucked up?" Well, I don't see how-" He said, "The shit that used to work- It won't work now." I had a dream Ah, shucks, oh, well Now it's all fucked up It's shot to hell Yeah, yeah, my shit's fucked up It has to happen to the best of us The rich folks suffer like the rest of us It'll happen to you That amazing grace Sort of passed you by You wake up every day And you start to cry Yeah, you want to die But you just can't quit Let me break it on down: It's the fucked up shit

Alternatively:
“Standin’ on a corner in Winslow Arizona Such a fine sight to see It’s a girl my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford Slowin’ down to take a look at me”
A few years ago, whilst on a business trip to Phoenix, I was tempted to drive to Winslow to have a picture standing on a corner, but then discovered that it was a 10 hr drive, so never made it.

*rs*h*l*s, b*st*rds, f*ck*ng c*nts and pr*cks

You gat a fast car is it fast enough that we can drive away? We've gotta make a decision Leave tonight or live and die this way
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car. One of the finest songs ever written, in my opinion.
