Clive Gregson has embarked on a project that would embarass even the most prolific of our Plucky Duck producers!
During this year Gregson has committed to release a new album each month! I've just bought the first two and thought there could be a few people here interested.
One Year
This is very similar to much of his late work, solo songs based around an acoustic guitar or piana accompanyment (with some sparce added instrumentation). There are 12 songs here each for a month of the year. It is nice listening which reminds me of the album Bittersweet. The songs are, perhaps, a litlte better and more consistent than the last few albums.
Raggedy Ass
February's title is more up my street. Apparently these songs were written for an electric 3 Boxes project that never happened — more like early Any Trouble. This is a kind of rockabillty record that is a real foot tapper. Drums, bass and electric guitars. Elvis in '56 is a gregson classic. The tracks all fade into each other which really drives the music along.
Both of these have the merit of being albums — about 40 minutes or less with no fillers. Like they should be.
