After many years of playing bass through my Ampeg BA210SP, a remarkably compact and very loud combo, I realised 2 things about it. 1: it is a little past it's prime. 2: It weighs a bloody ton.
So I went out to look for a lighter alternative and came back with a MarkBass 2X10 traveller bass cab and a Galien Krueger Backline 600 head.
The new set up is as loud as the old Ampeg and a bit clearer too. But it weighs in, at under half the weight. Big result!

....and split into two easier to carry boxes? (though a 2x10 cab can't be all that small I suppose...)

Nice Graham. I like the look of the MarkBass gear and GK heads seem to be very well considered. I think combos can be very heavy for the volume you get. My meagre 100W Kustom amp needs a JCB and low-loader to get it moved anywhere (or maybe I'm just weak!)

Thanks guys.
The GK head was end of line, so going very cheaply, for what is a very decent amp. The MarkBass gear is remarkable. The neodymium speakers, plus brilliant cab design, gives incredible loudness and quality, for very little weight and size.
I remember back in the 70s, I had a Fender Bassman amp and 2X15 cab. And I didn't even own a car. I must've been keen.

Good job on the purchases Grayn, I've never tried a MarkBass Cab but all the Gallien heads have been great, very clear and have a nice EQ. Have you ever tried the Gallien MB150S? I've never tried one but seen one played at a few gigs here and there and it's a very nice sound, really light weight for a 150w combo of 12kg. This bass head is one that I'd love to pick up, I reckon it'd be a awesome amp for running a electric guitar as well as a bass! I sold my last bass not too long ago. I kind of miss it now and again.

Cheers Wiggy.
I did consider a Gallien Krueger MB150S-112 III but you need another cab with it, to move some air.
I'm not a fan of Ashdown gear. You'd be better off with an Orange Tiny Terror, IMO.
I'm a big fan of Markbass cabs. Not quite so sure about their amps. If they were more easily available I'd have gone for an Ampeg head.
When I came out the shop, with the Markbass cab, the road I needed to cross, was incredibly busy. I had to run across, to avoid a very long wait. I could do this easily, carrying the cab, one-handed. If I'd had my Ampeg, I'd have had to wait about 10 mins and stagger over, 2 handed.
