Waking up to the news that John Prine has passed away. Very very sad. A huge influence on me, and someone who brought me many many hours of joy listening to his music. RIP John.

A great shame, he was one of the all time great songwriters and one of the most humane. For anyone who doesn't know his work it is worth checking out. Unusually, I think, his latter work is amongst his strongest. HIs last album was a superb meditation on age and vulnerability. The one before thhat — Fair and Square is my favourite. If you use a streaming service it is worth checking out!

I only discovered John Prine a couple of years ago, strangely enough after searching out a song I thought he wrote, but then found out he didn't, Killing the Blues. Nevertheless, it introduced me to the wonderful songs he did write and the hours of watching them on YouTube. He was certainly someone very special and will be missed.

I only listened to his stuff fairly recently as well. So many songs to listen to. It's all very sad.

I am ashamed to say I had never heard of John Prine until 6 years or so ago.
I visited the Martin guitar factory by chance. In their picking parlour they had a John Prine signature edition. I just couldn’t put it down. To this date my favourite guitar I have played. It was so light, and so responsive. It just sang. I just didn’t have the money to buy it. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself just to put it on the credit card.
Since then I have listened to a lot of his music. Such a talent. RIP

Not a bad 5 column "appreciation" of JP in the i newspaper today. Hooray.
Makes for more interesting reading that the usual 5 pages about no sport.

I thought about it for a while as I didn't want to jump on a bandwagon, but fair's fair, let's recognise JPs contribution, and here are three from me:
i have ten of his albums but prefer the first two best.
here are some songs that i sing from time to time.
