I first played this guitar in 2005 at Steve Kaufman's Acoustic Kamp. It belonged to Dave Skowron of Red Bear Trading. He and I were roomies for the two weeks at Kamp as I was a partner of his with the Red Bear picks for a while. His was one of about 12 D-18GEs at Kamp, to be expected at a tuition camp in Tennessee. That's Dave on the far right. I played the guitar a few times during those two weeks and told Dave to let me know if it was ever for sale, not thinking that it ever would be. He got in touch in early March to let me know that he was struggling with dreads these days and was hankering for a Les Paul standard 50s reissue. So we did the deal! I bought the Gibson from Sweetwater and shipped it straight to Dave in Utah and he shipped his Martin to me. Turns out it was a sweet deal. That guitar is so light. I've never known a dread to be so light. Dave got it from luthier Bryan Kimsey who has a trick of 'Kimsefying' these guitars, so shaving braces, removing the popsicle brace, bone nut and pins and hide glue on the bridge. I suppose cumulatively these things add up - maybe not. I don't really care. What I do know is that this guitar has tickled my tastebuds every day since it arrived. It has an adirondack spruce top and is really well played in. Here's a quick video I made as I was playing on the porch this afternoon. I think you'll like it scorpiodog!

Very nice Cams. I remember playing a really good non sunburst version of the D18GE at Wildhorse guitars in Sydney years ago. A friend has a nice 00018GE.

A nice looking and lovely sounding guitar Cams. Congratulations. I like the sound of dreadnoughts but alas, my right shoulder aches when I play one.

Cool - the 000-18Ge is a guitar that's always on my radar but that D looks (and sounds) sweet!

A nice looking and lovely sounding guitar Cams . Congratulations. I like the sound of dreadnoughts but alas, my right shoulder aches when I play one. It was exactly that that caused Dave's selling it Iain. He's happy with his OM. I can't believe in all my years of buying and selling guitars that this is my first Martin ha ha!
