I didn't have that much fun comparing guitars in a while I'm torn between the Larmorna and the Torridge. The bass of the Lyn is a little to flat for my personal taste. It would be superb, if it wasn't for the 2 others stealing the show. At the risk of sounding melodramatic here's my meagre attempt to what I am hearing: The Torridge sounds like a wide flowing river. the notes ring out in a very harmonic way. It all fits, bass middle and trebble are where they should be. The Lamorna however sounds equally river-like, but you can see/hear the tiny waves where they hit little rocks midstream and the bass sounds more accentuated. I think I'd go for the Larmorna. Thanks for sharing this, Phil. It was quite a treat listening to all three recordings.

Nobody has piled on Phil for having guitars with 12month old strings... am I the only one that finds that an absolute scandal?

I find that Elixir's don't need to be replaced just because of age. Having said that I've just put some Martin Retro monel strings on the Torridge fir no other reason other than I wanted to try them

for no other reason other than I wanted to try them unnecessarily profligate. You're just showing off now.

I once played a lute that still had it 200+ year old gut strings, the silver wire on the bass strings had gone a nice black but we just gave them all a very light vegetable oiling and they were good to go.

There seems to have been some interest in this comparison and it seems a shame to 'waste' the other two videos so I'm considering putting them all on one video. This would be just the main piece (without the bird song) in the same order. Nowt fancy, just one after the other. After all, I've got a bit of spare time Phil

After repeated listening to these brilliantly played pieces, I changed my mind: These are all fabulous guitars, but the Lyn has a tone that haunts me more each time I listen...

All are lovely, but Lamorna for me. Beautiful playing, Phil.

They all sound great but I think the Torridge pips it for me.

I have no idea why I've missed this tread up til now. But I've just had a good old listen (better than working!). For me, the Lamorna has too much separation between bass tones and treble tones - sounds almost like two guitars. The Torridge and Lyn both sound beautifully integrated, but for this tune (which is gorgeous and brilliantly played, Phil) I really love that ethereal shimmeriness of the Lyn. Mind you, I've always loved your Brook Lyn. In my opinion it's the second best Brook Lyn I've ever heard.
