I've had to do this a few times.... tuning up is scary!

I had a similar arrangement on my electric bass for many years. Lasted well.

I made a bloody embarrassing cock up when restringing my guitar with a set of strings I hadn’t used before for some reason I fitted the d string in stead of the low e, I was in the process of waggling the string to break it and at the instant it broke I thought the string gauge looked a tad slim

I realised the mistake immediately. I wAs trying out a string I'd not used before , but I've been sent a replacement foc,so that will be fitted soon perhaps not tonight tho! The strings I was trying were Rotosound Superbronze. I think the last time I bought Rotosound strings was from Kitchens in Leeds and that's some time ago. They are an odd string in that the core not the wrap is in contact with the saddle. I'm rather impressed with them and will certainly be buying them in the future. Has anyone else tried them?

I used Rotosound Country Gold for many years (until I discovered you know whats)- they were wound like piano strings so only the core touched the saddle. They disappeared for a while, then re-emerged with a different name, disappeared again and now I guess these Superbronze jobbies are the latest incarnation of them. Liked them a lot - tone and longevity were as good as any other, and the wound strings, because of the design, gave a fractionally lower action. Might investigate them shortly...thanks Andy! Keith
