Thinking about a passive soundhole pickup for my new guitar because I don't want it drilled.
Current options seem to be an LR Baggs M1 (passive) or a Seymour Duncan Woody.
Anyone have experience of these? What did you think? Or if you have other suggestions they will be welcome.
Thanks

I’ve just bought a Fishman Neo-D passive humbucker, as Mark from Sounds Great had a couple left. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but I’ll let you know. They have the same magnets as the Rare Earth series, but are passive.

I've got an SD woody - it hasn't had an awful lot of use but I bought it as a backup plan in case any of the onboard pickups suddenly give up on me.
I also fitted one permanently to a pub guitar in an establishment where I was running an open mic night.
I think they're great for the money but, you know, magnetic pickups sound like magnetic pickups. It's a tone that I much prefer to a cheap UST, and it works pretty well for bluesy stuff, but I wouldn't say it's especially close to an acoustic guitar.
I've always found the wires from temporary installations to be an annoyance (you tend to get trapped under them mid-strum) and drilling the endpin is a relatively simple job in the scheme of things for the amount of hassle it saves, that should only cost you £30-£40 from a tech. Because magnetic pickups stand proud of the soundhole, depending on the guitar you might not be able to enjoy the super-low action of your dreams. I have known a couple of instruments to develop buzzes or dead spots after they've been fitted.

I've also got a woody XL with the adjustable pole pieces, which I haven't used in nearly 10 years. It was my first foray into amplifying an acoustic. It was ok for what it was, but I never thought it sounded that great and I found the cable hanging down the front of the guitar a bit annoying. On the plus side it was easy to put in and take out again.
I use K&Ks now and I much prefer the sound I get, although I never think acoustic guitars sound that amazing amplified. If you get a pickup fitted by a reputable guitar tech/luthier then the drilling shouldn't be a problem.

stringdriventhingI was thinking about the Baggs Anthem or K&K Mini but it's just so new and perfect I don't want to have it drilled. If I have to play amplified I'll use a mic or a different guitar.

Yeah, I can quite understand that. If I ever get round to buying a really nice guitar I don't think I'd get a pickup fitted... it probably wouldn't leave the house.

That's what I'm thinking about this one. I have other guitars with pickups. The Yamaha can stay for home, holidays and high days.

If a pickup is fitted by somebody who knows what they are doing the. Drilling the hole shouldn’t be a concern - at least it hasn’t ever been for me!

In that case I'll probably go for the K&K Mini. I've not used one but I've heard good things about it and read positive reviews. The other one I'm thinking about is the LR Baggs Anthem but it's more than twice the price. Anyone think it's worth the extra money? Or do you have other suggestions. In an ideal world I'd just go and buy another LL guitar with a Yamaha pickup factory fitted but I don't think funds are going to run to that.

I've got K&Ks fitted in 3 acoustics, a mandolin and a tenor guitar. They sound pretty good, there's no messing around with batteries and they aren't too expensive. If I got another guitar that needed a pickup I'd go for K&K again. I don't have any experience of the Anthem.

Here's another vote for K&K. They're supposed to be easy to fit, but I confess I'd always go to a competent guitar tech or luthier.
