So I've spent the last four days at Studiowz - a residential studio in Pembrokeshire - studiowz.co.uk - where I've been recording what will be my debut album to be released in 2021! Whilst I was there I made a few videos and took some photos (probably should've taken more but I was busy making music!) and I've put them together to make the video above - hope you folks enjoy it!

Very enjoyable vid, Ben - you should call the album Beard, Hair and Beans. Must have been a great few days, though exhausting I'm sure. looking forward to hearing the outcome!

That looks fun. Look forward to hearing the tunes. I'm going to do that oneday. I've studioed with bands but never on my own. A residential one sounds ace as well.

Thanks for posting this Ben; really interesting to see how you recorded in a large space, particularly for someone who has only dabbled with it at home - you certainly had some ‘air’ to move about.

Good news Ben!! Very interesting and enjoyable video, thanks for posting.
Looking forward to hearing the results and I see you only used the Collings in this project rather than both the Collings and Martin OM. Was that just to ensure the guitar sound was the same throughout without having to change mics/positions etc?

Thanks Ben I enjoyed that, Was the studio in an old chapel? Good luck with the release. Yeah, an old baptist chapel built in the early 19th century - it was lovely! Nice big windows so lots of light (which is unusual for a studio!)

That looks fun. Look forward to hearing the tunes. I'm going to do that oneday. I've studioed with bands but never on my own. A residential one sounds ace as well. It was nice as it became a bit of a 'family' vibe - it wasn't like 'right, now you've got to go to the studio' we just had breakfast, chatted for a bit, and then at ten just went into the studio. and we didn't do ridiculous hours either - 10 till 6 everyday. So that kept it fresh and gave us a deadline to work to - I wouldn't have wanted to be going on till the early hours or anything like that!

Phil Well there's a few reasons I only used the Collings - one was that it has become my number one guitar and the guitar I play the most. Also, as you say, I didn't want to have to mess around with mic positions or changing anything - once we were setup I wanted to just be able to concentrate on the playing/singing and not have any other distractions. And that was also another reason - by just taking one guitar that was one less decision to be made, I wouldn't be second guessing if a take would be better on the other guitar etc etc. And the main reason was that it's just a better guitar - more clarity, more dynamics, etc. It does have a little less 'warmth' than my Martin but I've found I can 'play it warm' if that makes sense, but I can play 'clarity' into my Martin. I still love my Martin and I use it live (well when gigs can happen again I will!) but the Collings is top dog at the mo...
