Hi,
Don't know if you have caught this but this is a new YouTube live stream that started tonight, 9.30 for an hour and is planned to run every Tuesday. Mixture of Folk artists and advice on things like recording, zooming etc. I haven't watched it all yet but should be interesting. After the live streaming it goes onto Youtube, link below.

Really wanted to enjoy this - a great idea, but as I half-dreaded, the poor sound quality put me off after only a minute or so of music.
Did you last any longer John? maybe it improved later on?

Hi again,
I'm afraid it didn't get any better and, whilst I tried the start of each song from the 3 performers I didn't get more than 20 secs into each. The guitar sound/tone/volume was poor throughout and whilst the vocals were clearer and better, the audio was not in sync with the video even with one person playing and singing. Streaming also had issues. It's a shame because it's very good to see people trying to keep music going but this just didn't work. I will give it another go next week to see if they've managed to reduce the problems but as it is, it's a good effort but not so good a result.

There's something you can do with Zoom called "enable original sound". I know a bunch of people who run online sessions using this and the sound quality is marginally better. They also have a way of live-streaming the session to Facebook for other people to watch in real time - I'm not sure how they do that. There's loads of these sessions here: www.facebook.com/CaptainsBarEdinburgh

Personally not really too fussed about video or even, to an extent, audio quality on these things. The folk club Zoom singarounds inevitably have varying quality, from person to person, but they're really more for the participants than the 'audience'. The one in this thread is really only a small step up from the singarounds, it's a bit like an extended floorspot. I've heard some great online gigs this year, most recent being the Clive Carroll one someone alerted me to on this board. This guitar/vocal and fiddle duo gig was a good one too, and proof that a bit of visual pixellating needn't get in the way of a quality gig: www.facebook.com/nickhartmusic/videos/2806555849562038/
