Anyone play clawhammer uke?
I started playing ukulele about 5 years ago, first learning chord melody fingerstyle then campanella. I've always liked the sound of clawhammer ukulele, where the uke is played like a banjo, the 2 instruments sharing the feature of re-entrant tuning and now is the time to try to learn how to do it. Fiddle tunes played clawhammer style sound great.
There are some excellent resources available, Aaron Kiem's book and videos and Cathy Fink's videos in particular and not too may new techniques to learn. The left hand is quite easy but uses lots of hammer ons, pull offs and slides, but the right hand is so different to what I'm used to it's taking quite a while to perfect. I've pretty much got the basic bum-ditty strum but double thumbing and drop thumbing are taking their time. The only way is to repeat exercises until it becomes second nature. I'm not very patient doing exercises though so it feels like hard work!
