It’s a shame that Creole Girl wasn’t included, but very good nonetheless

Only saw him perform once, but great songwriter, performer, storyteller. Another of those blokes who seem to have always been gigging for many years and yet never quite came to wider notice. Shame. Thanks for posting this geddarby . Keith

I've seen Allan Taylor on numerous occasions - first time was in Crewe in 1980/81ish - I wonder of ocarolan was in the audience too!) I love his songwriting and melodies and have never been sure why he's remained so 'niche'. On the plus side, this has meant it's never been difficult to get tickets for his gigs, I suppose...

Really enjoyed that Ged ...thanks for posting...a wonderful story about Darrell Adams' funeral too. I saw him a couple of times in the early seventies but have lost touch with his music since then..lots to catch up on! I used to sing his " The Morning Lies Heavy " back then...should revisit that too.

I was in Sheffield from then until '87. Didn't see AT until mid '90s sometime - Milverton Music Club - great night! keith

I used to see him every time he came to my local club. Great performer and great songs. A bit light on the personality and I wonder if that was a factor on not breaking through. He did do a bit of telly but it seemed lacking. Wasn’t he big in Germany and Scandanavia?

andrewjw I have tried to play The Morning Lies Heavy without much success please resurrect and post with an indication of the chords and tuning that you use. geddarby ..this is my take on "The Morning lies Heavy" ...my memory is that AT wrote the song reflecting the feelings of his brother in law who was about to go to Vietnam having been drafted.. I used to play it in D with the guitar tuned to drop D to bring out the the bottom end...just done a verse and chorus here to give the general gist. D G The morning lies heavy on me Father Em G A I couldn't find the time to fall asleep D G And I couldn't stop from thinking on it either Em G A And the morning lies heavy on me... D G A Tell me , who's the one who fights until he's broken D G C A Is it the Man who sits in judgement on us all Em A D {to Bm maybe...AT stays on the D } I wouldn't care if it were their lives they were taking Em G A But they don't listen or even answer to the call........ Have fun.. Andrew

andrewjw thanks for this I shall now press on with my homework. AT had a series on Radio Two many years ago, and I recorded one the programs where he sings this and gives a little background information on the song. Thanks again

Thanks again Ged geddarby ...no probs ..it was fun to do. BTW ...in order to play along with the song as on the vid above I had to put a capo on the 1st fret...
