I wonder how many young people won't get it? Great spot.

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said, "The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls And tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence

A Simon and Garfunkel fan/graffiti artist? Is that an oxymoron? I liked this but would have been more accurate if the line in the song was 'The words of the prophets' IS written on the subway walls. But then again, if they just put a list of prophets' statements on the wall then nobody would have got it. Ahhhhh to be anal

It would have been even better if the message just read "Of The Prophets" but that might have been a bit too obtuse

I had not heard that before but did enjoy it. The story shows how the world of technology has evolved since then. Art talks of taking around 500 photos which was a huge amount in the days of film but now some people will take that many in a day on their phones without a thought of cost or processing time.

Always loved "Poem On The Underground Wall". Grafitti were (see what I did there, leoroberts) much simpler in those days. The days of someone planning to write a four letter word on a wall in crayon and getting palpitations in the anticipation are well and truly over. My favourite period for grafitti was in the 1970's when it became quite clever. One of my favourites was "Be Alert! Britain needs lerts." There were many I really wouldn't choose to share in this post. Often relating to beer. Watneys, I seem to recall. Ah, no. There was one I can share here. "If you feel the bottom's falling out of your world, drink Watneys and feel the world falling out of your bottom."

Always loved "Poem On The Underground Wall". Grafitti were (see what I did there, leoroberts)." Reminds me of Julius Caesar going into a bar and ordering a martinus. The barman asks if he means a martini and Julius says “if I’d wanted more than one I’d have asked for more than one”

My favourite Graffito on the underground was "Michael Foot, a leg end in his own lifetime".

The best I’ve seen was on the way into Twenty a tiny hamlet between Bourne and Spalding in Lincolnshire - ‘Twenty - Twinned with the moon, no atmosphere”.
