One of my all time favourites, not only a great player, but also guitar builder and later in Belgium he repaired and restored instruments. Like me his playing was cut short by a hand injury. He often had three guitars with him, all the same, but one with a green top, one blue and one red, so he could always find the one in the correct tuning. One of the forgotten greats.

Never knew much about Dave Evans, but I do have Sad Pig Dance and it is indeed very good.

Have to be honest and say I don't think I've come across him before, but that's a great video and I'll have to look out for more. Sad he's gone - very much reminds me of one of the guitarists who I saw (once) at the folk club I went to in Sunderland in the early 80's. Don't think it was him, but either way it's a style of playing I really like.

Sad to hear that. Jimmy Giuffre's The Train and the River is one of my favourite pieces of music and I really like Dave Evans' guitar version as well

His 'Whistling Milkman' tune is my 'stop feeling sorry for yourself' choon. Sadly, trying to play it is the primary way of making me feel sorry for myself...

I love his interpretations of Irish music too.
My version of this on YouTube is in a completely different tuning but you can clearly hear the influence of Dave's version.

Enjoyed that Phil thanks 'Devon County' - he, he. I think I remember a Melody Maker interview/article, an OGWT performance, and some mention of Wiltshire.

I'm afraid I only recently heard about him via a BBC4 program on great guitarists. In that performance he was playing on a guitar he'd made himself. The text accompanying the video said he had two guitars, one green, one red. So he could tell them apart after a few drinks! The performance on that show was pretty incredible!

Sad to hear. Though what I find worse is that "Stagefright" is the only song of his I seem to have a copy of, and whilst I think it is a great tune I have never looked any further. Methinks I need to so some more digging and grab a couple of albums.

I went into the garage today, and moved a pushbike. I also moved a lawnmower and a strimmer. Then I moved a big old air compressor and some kitchen chairs. I shifted a crate of books out of the way, and then a kitchen pedal-bin (which is being kept "just in case"). I moved four mountain bike tyres, a set of bike mudguards, a bike rack, and an empty fishing holdall. I was then able to take off the sheet covering my big old box of vinyl LPs. Inside the box I removed all the bubble-wrap further protecting the albums. Then I had to work through a bunch of Tom Waits and Little Feat, Duane Allman and Nils Lofgren, Bruce Springsteen and Free albums, and eventually I came to my little collection of Kicking Mule albums from the 70s. I extracted these albums, and put everything else back as I'd found it.
In my small office / music room, I then shifted a big pile of paperwork, some boxes of photos, a bunch of cycling energy bars and gels, and a Canon printer.
Then I was able to lift the lid on the only record deck I still have and finally... play Sad Pig Dance.
It was well worth it.
