00-12 fret for me I have 3 of them. I’ve owned a few guitars but after getting my first 00-12 10 years ago it’s the best guitar for me and how I play. I recently got my first ever dreadnaught.

I think I've chosen my versatile one guitar really, a Fylde Alchemist. Whilst I have others (which to be fair are all similar body styles, bar my 12 string dreadnought), I don't plan on getting another expensive guitar any time soon so this one has to be it for a long while I reckon. So far it fits the bill very well, and whilst I too generally don't like cutaways too much it is a very useful feature at times. I have been very impressed with how it handles chord work too. For a small guitar the body is quite deep, but still comfortable sitting down.

I like to think that I'm an open minded sort of guy but OK I'll admit it. Being a child of the 60's when dreads were the end all be all and we had no idea that any other options existed I've never picked up anything other than a dread. I know it's a case of liking what I know over knowing what I like but having played none other for well over 50 years I'm afraid that I'm just locked in for the duration.

Well, I am determined to stick with one guitar and after much consideration and some very helpful advice from forum members I went for an OM. I think it is the best compromise for me offering similar volume and bass responses to a dreadnought (and the 25.5" scale length) as well as a very comfortable body. However, have to agree with lavaman, my very close 2nd choice would be a 14-fret OO.

If I'd been asked the question on choosing one size of guitar in 2014 or 2015 I'd have said Parlour, and 12 fret ... with conviction in my mind. Asked up to 2012 I'd have said "what sizes are there"! I'm a late convert to acoustic. 2016 threw my conviction out of the window. The cause - the Vintage Giltrap Signature guitar. 14 fret and far from being a parlour. Lower bout the size of a Dread, Waist the size of a Parlour, and Upper Bout the size of an Auditorium. Perfect for playing sat down with the pinched waist, sweet treble sounds, and some larger body size for some fuller sound / resonance. But no-one other than made to your spec luthiers seem to do that sort of hybrid shape though. I guess the big companies see it as too risky to be different. I now have no idea what to look at for any other guitar in the future!! "An Fea Caol" by Dave White remains by far the best guitar I've played though. A magnificent Terz Parlour - even smaller than a parlour - Lawsons Cypress top and Cuban Mahogany B&S. Sweet, mellow, rich and beautifully balanced over bass, mids and trebles - so comfortable to play too. Mark

That's quite difficult for me because a few months ago all I was playing was my 000 size 14 fret Lamorna after getting it in July 2019 but since I picked up a pick for a change doing these fiddle tune things I can't put down my 00 12 fret cutaway Lyn. I have a dodgy left wrist with a screw or two in it so when I ordered the 12 fret it was all with this in mind and whether or not I would have problems with it in the future. A 12 fret brings the nut nearer to your body so is more comfortable to reach. I also chose the slot head because the angle of the tuning machines is more comfortable for my wrist angle. Of course I've moaned restringing on here in the past but I'm used to it now. Having said all that I think the 000 size body is a tad more comfortable to hold. With regard to sound I like them both but the 00 responds to a pick better to my ears and I can get a nice jazzy sound out of it. So if I had to chose one I'd probably go for the 00 12 fret cutaway............at the moment Phil

My SC Skye especially works well with a pick.

It depends what I'll be doing with the guitar in this horrific scenario! If I'm performing -then it would have to be one of my 12 fret dreads.
If I'm just teaching at home - it would be my Collings 12 fret 0002h.
If I'm just noodling at home - then my Eastman E40-00 (or E20-P)

I think it would be a 00. My Guild is that size and although I played a bigger guitar for years (and years and years) I find these days that it is a much more handleable size for me.

I have a couple of dreads which seldom get played but when I do, I like the sound. However, they are ugly shapeless things that get a bit uncomfortable before I've finished playing. I prefer a bit more of a waist such as OOO or OM, I have a Lowden 'F' shape (pre 2003 update) which is perfect.
The original Dreadnoughts were made for sinking so one might feel more at home in Leo's bath.

Physically, it would be a classical size / 00 12 fret. If it had to be a larger guitar it would have to have a Manzer wedge or be tapered like a Sobell.

A 00 12 fret in mahogany and Sitka, although having sold a couple of guitars lately, I am considering commissioning a similar sized 13 fret model in walnut and European spruce with a slightly deeper body.

It probably could do with a Manzer wedge.
