Yes, the Bog Oak is quite an incredible material. It has been buried & preserved for thousands of years in a peat bog, turning it from golden brown, to a rich, black colour. It becomes much denser due to the partial mineralisation that occurs in the bogs. Amongst other reasons, due to oak's high tannin content, it also doesn't rot.

I usually document my work with photography along the way in general, as I then have an album of construction photos to show the client, as well as being a good reference for me in the future (when my memory fails me).

A super thread.. Oska Burman Guitars. I’m interested to hear more about your thinking behind the structured sides…”cherry insides, kerfed cedar core and bog oak on the outside” ? I’m another rosette fan too…lovely work all round!

I’m another rosette fan too…lovely work all round! Thank you. Glad you're enjoying the thread. The general theory is that the stiffer/more rigid the sides are, less vibrational string energy from the top is lost in them, making for more efficient sound production.

Thanks to everyone for their comments/feedback thus far. Seems as though the rosette has been well received. I'm building two other guitars currently which have variations of this rosette, so good to know that it's aesthetically pleasing.
