Very much not for the Duck. Occasionally I venture back into the dark-side of electric guitar.
I got a bit caught up in Neil Young's electric guitar soundtrack on the Jim Jarmusch film "Dead Man" recently.
Fancied having a go at trying to do my variation on soundtrack music for the opening scene. A train in the extreme wild west wilderness moving through territory getting more wild, and the new passengers boarding the train also looking more wild and scary.
Reverb / delay to try to evoke the rhythm of the noise of the train and the tracks.
NOT trying to sound like the man himself - I couldn't anyway even if I wanted to.
PRS SE with P90s through a Vox Tonelab SE (the old style Tonelab made of metal that weighs a ton(ne) and has no USB stuff). Just a single track recorded direct to the DAW.
As it's over a year since the last time I picked up an electric guitar I think there's little danger of anything more like this for a long time.

I keep saying that you write really great soundtrack music even if by accident - this time it was obviously on purpose, and the result is very atmospheric and evocative - very nicely done, Mark! Keith

I enjoyed that Mark, very interesting, atmospheric music and you’ve got at bit of gear at your place haven’t you?
Good stuff indeed 👍

This is one for the smoky room at the back of the bar... I listened to it yesterday Mark, whilst walking the dog... or, more accurately, sitting in the park occasionally throwing a ball for the panting pest. Good stuff, cheers

Keith I'm very happy that you keep encouraging me in my attempts at music leaning towards a soundtrack idea. Thanks Keith! I've gravitated to listening to "mood" music for several decades and that liking inevitably spilled over into my own attempts to make music. I enjoyed that Mark, very interesting, atmospheric music and you’ve got at bit of gear at your place haven’t you? Good stuff indeed 👍 Thanks Phil! The Vox Tonelab LE is my one surviving multi-fx unit. Still a few individual fx pedals in the case, but no more than 5 survive.
I've been through quite a few multi-fx units and have discarded quite a few more modern and supposedly "better" units as they didn't measure up to old faithful in ease of use or sound quality.
I love that it's all knobs, dials and switches and not horribly complex multi strand menu systems. Very easy to see what you're doing and what all the settings are.
There's a decent set of amp models and speaker models and the fx unit sims all have multi options on parameters. Very decent stabs at the sound qualities too. 19.7"x9.8"x3.15" and 9.26 lbs. Always useful if you need a spare battering ram! Or something to clobber a burglar with.
A single low-wattage 12AX7 valve does all the work, but this is combined with a 'virtual' output transformer and a dummy speaker circuit, meaning that the final stages of the signal chain are all in the analogue domain. While nothing like a proper piece of valve gear for guitar I do think it helps in making the sounds less artificial than a lot of the purely digital modelling units i tried back in the 2008-2013 years.

We both have one of those "panting pests"! Especially bad in the recent heat.
We go for a walk of a couple of miles and Tiree manages at least double that with his ball chasing. Always sounds like there's a steam engine in the back of the car when we're going home.
Great Mark - that really fitted your self-imposed brief. Very evocative. Thanks Derek - glad you told me it fits the bill. Bolsters the confidence to hear it confirmed.
