You certainly seem to be well prepared for any tendency towards 'rotation' towards the sound hole, although I would imagine that apart from the stresses caused by pushing down on the floating bridge the other main concern with a tailpiece mount is the compression between neck and tail blocks. Is that what the long carbon fiber tubes are about? Kym, Pretty much what the long tubes are there for and also the long braces that make a sort of A with the ladders. There will be a degree of top thinning before I do the binding keeping it thick in the bridge area and thinning out towards the perimeter to make the top more responsive while keeping enough strength for the twelve strings. I'll be interested to hear how it sounds too as this is very much new territory for me.

This is great stuff, Dave. I'm loving these build threads.
Really looking forward to hearing the result!
All the best,
Alasdair.

Any more progress Dave?
Seems a while since the last batch of photos. I'm getting impatient now!

Shubbs/Phil, Following the "Sewage Event" earlier this year I've had to carry out some major landscaping work. Each June my wife who is a textile artist has open studios at the annual "Bucks Open Studios" event in June and we need to be ready for visitors then: "Bucks Open Studios - Lesley Taylor & Debbie White"This year I've been press-ganged into joining her in this: "Bucks Open Studios - David White"I'm hoping to have "An Tairneanach Mór" ready for this but have to finish a mandolin commission first. There's an open invitation to everyone to come and visit during the event.

Is a 'sewage event' when you join a whole lot of textiles together, Dave?
Wish I could attend the open studio event, hope it goes well.

The Bog Oak bindings are taped together with the side and top black/ pear/ black purflings: They are then bent to shape in the Fox-style bender: Next the top binding channels are cut using the binding jig to the depth of the bindings plus side purflings. The channels are stopped just short of the end-graft. Purfling pieces are stuck using double-sided tape over the end-graft. The binding channel is then cut over the end graft with the jig riding on these so that the depth cut is just that of the binding. The end graft side purflings can then be mitred using a chisel: The process is repeated on the back: The purfling channels are then cut: The top bindings and purflings are then glued in using fish glue . . . . . . and then the back bindings and purflings are glued in:

Thanks for the pics Dave.
The Oak looks beautiful.
I'm great to see it's progression. When it's finished, a Lead Belly song should be played on it!

Thanks Shubbs - I'll do my best. When the glue is dry the bindings and purflings are scraped and sanded flush: The scarfe joint is cut on the oak neck blank and glued up using hot hide glue in this jig: The pieces for the stacked heel are then glued up using hot hide glue: Next the truss rod channel is routed out: The two way adjustable truss rod is put in the slot and glued down with a mahogany cap using fish glue:

I trust you will have done your research by spending a few years in the Louisiana's Angola Prison Farm. Yes it's an Allied truss rod and thanks for the heads up on the UK fish glue source. The slots for the carbon fibre bars are routed: The carbon fibre bars are glued in with mahogany caps using fish glue: The Bog Oak headstock veneer together with black/pear/black veneers is glued on using fish glue: Then the Boag Oak back headstock veneer is glued on with fish glue after bending on the hot pipe to match the volute together with black/pear/black veneers:

Dave
Perhaps we should be using Blind Willie McTell as a standard: played the same brand of guitar, but was a much more complete musician than Leadbelly, and in addition managed to keep himself out of the big house.
Although he did like a drink or two.
