This forum needs new material so while I continue to focus on life's multi-tangential pursuits, what do we know about cross-over guitars? Keeping in mind that I have some worthy steel string acoustics and one electric, I've fallen hard for their cross-over brethren. I bought one. The Yamaha NTX1200R, under the influence of Savarez Alliance normal tension strings, is a very fine example of one of these hybrids. I highly recommend spending a few moments with one for acquaintance and opinion forming.
An observation: I did some research recently on nylon strings to answer the eons-old question of what, exactly, are normal, hard and extra hard tension classical guitar strings in terms of some unit of measure. I did find out that tensions are anywhere from the mid 80's to over 100 pounds of pull, normal through extra hard tensions, respectively. Also, the normal tensions are for tone adjusting and the harder tensions are for volume. I find that with a narrow soundbox the normal tension strings are best. Harder tensions, specifically the trebles, become very muted on this NTX. I experimented with La Bella 850B-HT and D'Addario EJ46 hard tension sets and Savarez Alliance normal tension. Savarez normal tensions give me better bell tones from the trebles than the HT trebles from the other brands/trebles.
