I got a Zoom H5 to replace the elderly Zoom H2 which mysteriously disappeared more than a year ago into the people's collective of young baroque musicians who forget to return things. Much easier to set up levels with actual knobs, and on first experiment seems to have lower self noise, and I think the built in XY mics are superior to those in the H2. It works well when mounted on a cheap camera tripod and pointed at the neck/body join. Still haven't tried it with external mics (it provides phantom power for condenser mics), but I suspect this will be good for recording when forced to be away from home on holidays and the like. Kym

vikingblues; You're in for a treat. As a player who's inclined to view ' groups ' as a sure-fire route to multiplying one's own insecurities and inadequacies it's brilliant to record a track exactly as you want it- up to ten minutes long- and then sit back and improvise yourself into an uninterrupted state of bliss playing along with it. Now I need another machine which can take over the improvising and I'll be able to sod off and take up something else. Haw, haw...haw

I just received a box from a friend in the US - in it were 6 packs of Martin strings and possibly the best Xmas present ever: I've never liked the look of Kyser capos but how can I not love this one?? Now I'm going to make a guitar strap to match for busking.

I'll be getting a Thalia capo, unfortunately still in transit due to our post being redirected. Did receive some music though, Kleynjan's arrangement of Clair de lune, which is a challenge, but beautiful, also some Satie and Manuel de Falla - sadly been ill, so not been able to pick up the guitar.
Using a dongle at the moment, so mostly not online, but still popping in now-and-again to see what's going on.
Oh yes, also got "Nick Drake, Remembered for a while", which Mrs Mosco's friend contributed to, so looking forward to reading that.
Hope you all had a good Christmas.

The Mrs got me a TC Electronic Spark Booster. Which is remarkably useful. It just boosts your guitar signal by up tp 10db. Brilliant little thing. And a very interesing book, about The Killer. She's a real darling.

Jonny Hi Jonny, I received my Thalia capo before crimbo. I'd be interested in your opinion of it... All the best for 2015, Alasdair.

What a great looking uke. Does the "-L" on the label mean long scale?
Thanks! Yes it is long scale, tenor scale length but concert body. It's got quite a nice ringing tone for a uke.

I collected mine front the sorting office, had to pay over £12 customs (£4.00 customs + £8.00 Royal Mail handling).
The neck on my Sobell is too slimline for it, but it works fine on the Kostal. For around £20 it's okay, but not a high-end product. Also, very chunky. A good idea that needs a little refining.
