At HB1 back in September 2010 I gave a Workshop on an introduction to DADGAD that Martin videoed. The workshop explained DADGAD in its interval and how it differs from the Open tunings of D major and D minor and then went through a series of useful chord shapes to get people started. These were on a handout that you can download as a pdf file here. I also went through a version of “Yesterday” in DADGAD based on Laurence Juber’s arrangement and a pdf file of the tab is downloadable here and an mp3 file of me playing it is here.. The Workshop video is here: I hope this is of some use as DADGAD is a very versatile and useful tuning to have in your armoury.

That's a great video workshop Dave. Loved the comment about writing TAB as you are arranging. A far better way of 'recording' what you compose. I had spent time playing in DADGAD but not recently for various reasons. I have been shown the error of my ways and will return back to the DADGAD fold. Didn't know that the CAGED system could also apply to the tuning.

Leo, Youngmath - thanks. Sam - being an occasional DADGAD "visitor" would be nice. I actually record what I compose now first so I don't forget it and then tab it when/if I get chance. I still find that the tabbing teaches me a lot about subliminal things I do in my compositions. The CAGED system - or CAGE as I think it should be - is really all about how scales work and so is independant of the tuning you are in and is a useful tool to know. sounds a bit like me Keith - thanks. Ah yes, the wonderful smells of Hebden Bridge The Indian takeaway aromas at Halifax this year will be a special treat methinks.
